Interesting, well i will have to try it out, There is a samll amountof info in the pdf manual. but nothing really helpfull. its all hardware based so i dont think ill need to install any software. Anyone else used the OC dial? also in HM monitor under temps im getting a reading of 40 degrres C on something like tcmp01 or something like that is this normal?

Turn off C1E support and AMD CaQ before doing any overclocking.

As for the CPU Voltage...it allowed me to change it, but the change wasn't actually made, voltage was still being reported at the oem 1.375. In order to make the voltage actually change I had to adjust the first CPU Voltage setting(VDD or something like that), as well as the normal CPU Voltage. Once I had both adjusted to the same value, CPU-Z finally reported the increased voltage.

I have been unable to reach a fully stable 4.0GHz, the closest I got was with the following settings adjusted...

C1E = Off
CaQ = Off
CPU FSB = 250MHz (Default is 200MHz)
CPU Multiplier = 16x (Default is 17x)
CPU VDD = 1.4750v (Default is Auto)
CPU Voltage = 1.4750v (Default is Auto)
NB = 2000MHz (Default is 2000MHz, but adjusting the FSB increased this number to 2500MHz and created an instability so I put it back to default)

I did not adjust anything else in BIOS.

At those settings, which are well within any limits for this CPU, I was doing fine until about half an hour in to Prime95 blend testing. The PC shut itself down, fried either the PSU or the MB...or both. Had to RMA them both, still waiting on them to be delivered back to me. Still have no idea why this happened, could have been temps(max individual core temps were 65, max overall cpu temp was 61), could have just been something faulty that took a little stress testing to finally show itself.

There have been a lot of people having trouble hitting a fully stable 4.0GHz, so you may have to settle for 3.8 or 3.9. I don't know if it's the board or the CPU, haven't talked to anyone else with another-brand 890fx.

Had to RMA my board.

With my overclock settings which were well below other peoples' settings for this same setup, the MB decided to die. Had something to do with the 8pin power, and possibly the NB. My settings in BIOS were...

FSB = 250MHz(200MHz was default)
CPU Multiplier = 16x(17x was default)
NB = 2000MHz(the bump to FSB cranked this to 2500MHz, caused instability so I turned it back down to default)
CPU VDD = 1.475v
CPU Voltage = 1.475v

Beyond me why the MB failed @ those settings, I've seen people run the same ones or higher, with voltages around 1.50-1.55v. What really gets me is the fact I didn't bump the NB or anything else. This MB failure shouldn't have happened, and from the looks of it, other people have had this same exact problem.

Also, the new board from newegg had a tab covering one half of the 8pin. I don't remember the first one having this. I removed it and plugged both 4pins in.

best thing is to have a black edition processor but they should all allow you to change the voltage make sure you have updated your bios to vers 1.6 from the msi web site http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=dow...1&prod_no=2025

I have another build with this motherboard for a friend with the 955 BE had to go upto 1.45 on cpu just to get it stable for a 3.7 OC on the Multiplier on air cooling all the rest was left stock
it seems this MB/chipset really favors the 1090T it's very easy to hit 4Ghz
