I can't seem to get my RAM anywhere close to stock speeds when overclocking the CPU/FSB.

I just bought some Mushkin Blackline @ 1600 from Kamikaze to replace my G.Skill @ 1333. So, I reset everything to Auto in BIOS, set my DRAM timings to 7-7-6-18, CPU to 3GHz (200 x 15), FSB 200, and FSB:RAM ratio to 1:4. Boot it up and everything is stable.

If I turn my OC back up, the board will either auto-drop the FSB:RAM ratio to 1:2, or it'll just fail and give me a warning and the option to load a different preset / go to SETUP. This will happen even through the board's OC genie, which changes the following settings:

CPU to 3.4 (227 x 15)
FSB to 227
CPU voltage - 1.327
CPU NB voltage - 1.160
NB voltage - 1.298
NB PCIE - 2.162
FSB:RAM ratio - 1.2

the system will run stable under this, although obviously the memory speeds are weak sauce.

a different run, at 226

If I try to turn the FSB Ratio up at all to get back around 1600, I get failures. Any suggestions?

edit- trying again now starting w/ low divider and raising bus speed

I got mine (890FXA-GD70) through Newegg on an "open box" deal for $150, which I consider to be a steal. I haven't had a single problem with it; personally, I think it's one of the best boards I've ever seen. I don't know of any temp issues; I certainly haven't had any with mine. The northbridge tends to be hot on a lot of boards, especially when overclocking, but they can usually take the heat, and this has a nice big sink anyway, so if you have decent airflow you should be good. There's a good review here that goes pretty in-depth.

Well, I would suggest checking out Xeb's
guide to overclocking Phenom II's at the very least, but if you want an easy overclock, fortunately there are tools that do a decent job. The "OC genie" function actually specs things fairly well, and it only takes about a minute. Check the end of the review I posted to Enfluenza for some details on that. Also, I've never used AMD overdrive's autoclock feature, but it might get you a relatively easy OC as well. In any case, there's a lot of stuff about getting started over in the overclock.net newbie guide

I doubt it, seeing as the Phenom II IMC tops out around 1800
Best to shoot for tighter timings, I think, and push the NB frequency. Even 1333 way outperforms 1600 in most cases if its 2 or 3 cycles faster.
