My poor poor MSI 790FX dies on me, before I was able to put it through its paces, a sad sad day it was
Non the less, it has been replaced with a MSI 890FXA-GD70, should have it by tomorrow, so excited, tired of having to use a back up PC

well I was installing my new cpu cooler, and while cleaning the old thermal paste off, I spilled some nail polish removes onto the board, non the less I cleaned the mess up, installed the cooler, and my new psu, so i was like 2hours later and I booted up, all was fine, even ran prime 95 for a while to see what my new temps were like. All was good
and I shut down and went to bed, next day after work, got home, booted, and everything flicked on and immediatly switched off again.
Tried a few thing with no results. Eventually i found that there is a dead shot over my 8pin cpu plug. Board turned on fine with it unplugged, but you cant do much then.
So I'm guessing it was my fault, couldn't see any burned out tracks, resistor or VRM's, so I'm confused how it worked, then didn't

My 790FX also died recently after a year without any problems. Hence I am now the owner of a 890FXA-GD70. I liked my 790FX and so far I am enjoying the 890FXA.

Just got this mobo like 4 days ago and just messing with it, went from the 790fx-gd70 to this mobo. I love the new OC software they have but still would prefer to OC my mobo thru BIOS. I see alot of peepz that had the 790fx blow their mobo, I end up handing mines to my little brother and its still working just fine. If anyone have OC wit the 890fxa-gd70 to 4.0ghz can they plz help me out. Just got a new psu which is the antec 1000 TPQ and it stays stable on 3910 but if I go to play a game it gives me a blue screen, I had a 500watt antec and I thought hads why I kept getting the blue screen.

Hello, BIOS Version 1.7 has released on 20 October:

ChangeLog:
- Update CPU AGESA code.
- Update AMD SB version.
- Disabled APS function during over-clock.
- Update AHCI option ROM.
- Support Killer Xeno Pro card.

It's possible it includes IOMMU support too as 1.7 beta files did it.

i've already tried it...but windows still unable to find my drives
and the worse part...i've already sold my drives at nearly half price

Worse buy of my life, everybody has some problems. May be that`s why. I moved to I7 platform long ago. It looks like AMD 6 core barely catches intel 4cores, and most of the applications, intel seems performing better with HT on.
6 core vs 4 core each on HT...and everything build on Intel standard and Intel opcodes...I'm not surprise

thanks
i think it will fit
previously i'm using Noctua NHD14 and a pair of OCZ Reaper HPC along with it's awkward pole but doing just fine

EDIT
new bios is a crap
i can't get 4.1Ghz without giving 1.45v or more with IOMMU enable

So far, so good

Installed my 890FXA-GD70 on Saturday, together with a PII 965 C3 + CNPS10X Quiet (massive!), N460GTX 1Gb Cyclone, and cheapie 2x2Gb OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 Gold

Loaded Windows 7 Ultimate with the RAM at stock settings (1033MHz), using a USB flash-drive

Tried installing the bundled chipset drivers, but it starts up Catalyst graphics drivers (???)

Installed the bundled drivers for the 460GTX and was horrified to see the Win desktop filled with tiny pink artifacts. Installed newer drivers from MSI and the problem vanished!

I tried pushing the RAM up to 1600MHz (1:4) in the BIOS, but the PC refused to boot. So I stepped the memory voltage to 1.55V, then 1.6V and finally 1.65V, where the PC booted successfully. I installed and ran Starcraft2 for about 30min and had absolutely no problems. The graphics temps went up to 55degC, but I didn't keep tabs on the CPU temp, which seemed to be around the 41degC mark in Windows. So I'm quite happy for now. Next up I'll attempt to OC the CPU to 3.8GHz, hoping that the RAM will handle the speed, and finally try getting the 460GTX up to 800MHz
