hey eloverton2 I was thinking into probably getting the 1090 for x-mas, but there ain't to many reviews on the 1090 with OC & all. I just want to know since its a black edition six core want to know how it runs just in stock. As you see my spec. I have the 965 BE and I have OC it to 4.2 and its was stable just surfing the net and so on, but when I went to play games it would stay stable for like 5mins then it'll BlueScreen. I just think its in my ram I have 4gigs at the moment but by next week I'll have 8, I just want to know since my CPU is one of Top AMD out there right now for OCing. If I'm going to have issue with the 1090 BE.

Stock, the 1090t is a beast. What do you use your computer for? If it is just gaming, you probably won't see much of a difference with a 1090t as an overclocked 965 because most games aren't optimized to use all six cores (few programs are really). The six cores help when you are multi-tasking and running a lot of cpu intensive programs at once.

If it crashes when you game, your OC isn't stable. What version of the 965 do you have 140w or 125? I had the 140, and it wasn't a good oc'er at all- too much heat. And since you are on air, I would think 4.0 would be your upper limit. To find a stable overclock, follow this guide by Gappos it really helped me when I was first starting out. I posted my system specs earlier in this thread, you can refer to them too. If you are playing games with 5770's in crossfire, you won't see much performance gain at 4.2 as 4.0 since the games depend 90% on the gpus. Stability>An extra 200 mhz

in general 8 gb of ram is harder to overclock than 4. Pretty much all new chips have on board memory controllers, so the more memory there is, the more the cpu has to distribute. Blue screens are generally ram or nb instability. Black screens and crashes are cpu. what are your current oc settings? hope this helps. let me know if you have more questions.

Eloverton2 wassup dude thx for the feed back, its helping out a lot on understanding whats going wrong with the settings. I basically use it for gaming but at times I do video and audio editing, nothing big but you just messing around with stuff.

I have the 965 BE 125w, at the moment I only have one 5770. At the moment I'm at stock settings, kept getting BS when I would go play a game, so I just got tired and didn't want to fry my cpu. But the OC settings I had is the ones on my cpu-z link I have posted. Your info did help me out a lot and I'm gonna look into that guide when I have time, and it also help me out on what not to buy next or what to buy. I was getting another 5770 but if you said if Ima be OC'ed and also have crossfire, there ain't much diff. Ima see. So you did help me out on saving some cash, good looking out bro.

Just to clarify:
another 5770 in crossfire will increase your performance in gaming more than anything. you might see a small improvement in gaming with a 1090t over a 965, but imo not enough to justify buying one. you won't see that much improvement in gaming at 4.2 over 4.0 (especially if 4.2 is unstable).

do you have amd overdrive? that and cpu-z hardware monitor are what i use to check my system. check your temps often when oc'ing and you won't have to worry about frying your cpu/board. glad i could help.

edit: i reread your post, and if 4.0 is also unstable go down again. when overclocking, its best to start at stock everything, and go up one notch at a time, until its not stable. then go back to your last stable setting. its tedious and time consuming, but worth it to know the limits of your hardware. every chip is different and some chips (even of the same model) don't oc as well as others.
