I'd buy an MSI Neo4 motherboard instead of the Asus and also would pass on the heatsink for now. With that $160 savings, I'd buy a video card and you'll be much happier with a much faster machine.

Well, if you want to get serious about overclocking, go with this motherboard:

DFI Lanparty UT SLi-DR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136157
Get an SLi Certified PSU, for less: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...&Go.x=0&Go.y=0
Get this processor instead, better overclock, and you should be able to surpass a 3700+: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103600

yeah i wouldnt throw all that money into that mobo, for $80 less you can get the msi sccr and i have and put that extra into something else. problem is you are kind of in between concepts. if you really want to oc get the dfi noted above, some top notch ram and a better psu. otherwise why spend so much? take your 100-150 saved and put it towards an ipod, or 7800gt or something.

Is the ram not up to par? The PSU is not good enough? Please advise what I'm missing? Thanks! I chose the Asus mobo is because it's got on board IEEE 1394 and a parallel port which I still need. The heatpipe idea is kind of neat .. but thanks for the comments, keep them coming please.

Well i would go with the Big Typhoon insytead of the zalman HS. I also would go with a DFI MOBO becasue i haev heard those r very good if you are looking to overclock. Also the RAM looks good and go with the NUUO PSU cuz its cheaper, better, adn modular. On the processor its all what you plan to do. If you want to overclock a ton and spend more money then go with the opteron 148. if you want an average overclock and save some money adn put that money towards other compents then go with the 3700+. I have heard they both overclock very well but it all comes down to what you are looking for and how much you want to spend.

Maybe just get some PC4000 G.Skill instead, it will help you out a lot with overclocking.

People around here get woodies over Antec, Enermax, OCZ and other high end power supplies. Looking out the output specifications I would say that PSU is more then capable. If you got the money maybe look at one of those three brands for your solution.

Edit: I read a review of that Zalman Heatsink and it was very functional at stock speeds or minor overclocks. But when you pump the volts and increase the MHz of your processor they level out with the rest of the playing field. My 7700 is just as effective in overclocking scenarios.
