see title^^^^^^^^^^

is this bad? i dont really know anything about psu's and this is my first build. i just got a really cheap psu cause i spent the bulk of the cash on the rest of the system.

could this hurt anything? everything else seems to be fine except the +3.3 sometimes drops to 3.26-3.28

Yes, very bad...not in the it will do damage way but in the my rig is very unstable way. Put a new PSU on your list of things to get soon. A PSU is basically the heart of your rig...now power, no anything else. PSU's are probably the least appreciated components in the beginning of the learning curve, but then you go and try to have a little OC fun and you find out awefully quick just how important they are. Now, as it is "bargain" PSU, you do run the risk if it decides to up and die on you it could take other hardware with it. I don't say this to scare you but to inform you. It is a possibility. That is why I say a new PSU should be your next upgrade.

speedfan says my +12 is at 12.77, is that bad? I have heard that these MSI boards read voltages wrong, is that true?

Software seems to always read power wrong...get a mutimeter and check via a molex for true voltages. That is very high and could cause premature death of components if it is maintained for long periods of time.

Yeah, my Neo4-F reads the voltages way wrong, too. It shows my 12v and 5v lines jumping all over the place, but when I check it with a multimeter it's completely stable.

Good news and bad news..... The good news is that software voltage readings mean next to nothing. The bad news is that a cheap psu will probably not last long and will usually take several parts with it when it blows. Replace it as fast as possible regardless of what your voltages actually turn out to be. Think of a power supply as a safety on a gun....you want a good one because if it goes, it isn't pretty.

Usually it will crash, reboot or maybe just hang (requiring rebooting). Although it may seem like just an annoyance if you need to or are forced to reboot, the more you do this (turn off/turn on) the more the risk of damaging your components. Audiophiles will attest to the fact that the single hardest thing on an electrical component is turning it on. Many will just leave their stereo equipment on 24/7. Now this may not be an option for you for several reasons...I am just puting it out there so you know about it. If you aren't seeing crashes then you should be fine...for now. I do not know if low voltage can effect HDD performance...haven't seen it mentioned out here. Anyone else know if it can?
