Water cooling a Raid Card? - Page 4

I've made custom heatsinks for PERC 5/i and 6/i cards before... they help.

These cards are designed for enterprise servers with loud fans and go through certification for installation.
Once again...

Hi DuckieHo,

Thanks. I work with PERC 5/6 cards every day at work in Dell PowerEdge machines. I marvelled at their performance and decided to get myself one.

The PERC is not the problem. The MegaRAID SAS 84016e is. My server has 2x RAID-5 arrays each of 5x2TB SpinPoint F3EG drives. I cannot afford a separate backup system so if the RAID controller goes loopy, I lose data.

If you can point me in the right direction for custom heatsinks for either or both cards, I'd really appreciate it.

Many thanks for the super-speedy reply.

Thread Starter
I found a site that made water blocks for a few adaptec cards.. cant find it again Im using a Delta high performance fan mounted right beside it.

I was having issues with I/o errors and when the card got to hot it was messing up and disks would fall out of raid @!

Found out this was due to heat (least the batery backup module on the card keeps the errors in memory) The fan now stops this from happening as a result I've yet to need to reghost any arrays for months.

If the fan didnt work I would have gone with the water block.

I saw somewhere some user use mosfet from p5e mobo and set on termoclue;
(now found here http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/p/MIPS-Adaptec-ASR-5805-Chipsatz-POM_13783.html but it's for smaller card, I also think to watercool 52445 adaptec raid)
maybe will use https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-068-AR (Arctic Accelero Hybrid II - 120mm) but must check if 70x70 compatible with raid card...
