GTX w/ ACS, another GT in SLI, or wait til 7900GTX price is confirmed

Ok well I'm tihkning about selling my GT CO and getting a GTX w/ ACS and then doing a further upgrade later to SLI or should I just go with another GT CO to SLI.

I dont think I'll be able to plunk the nearly $700 for a 7900GTX when it drops, but we still dont have a price on that. Even still I only have about $500 to put toward the G71 and really dont want to spend an extra $200 for a little bit more performance over SLI.

GT's in SLI will give me more performance than a GTX and would probably last me til I upgraded to DX10 in probably 2 years (holding out as long as I can) but I'm still unsure

I know about the whole future proofing and what not htat's why I'm considering on the G70 GTX route instead of the GT SLI, I only have a resolution of at best 1280x960 16:9 so having SLI really doesnt mean all that much since I'm not gaming at 1600x1200.

In any case I have about $250 to do whatever with, maybe more (trying to sell my stuff that I was going to use for my case mod but that went south). I was also thinking about a 4400+ and selling my 3700+ for about $180-$200 since it's only been used for a month

The acs is useless... just get a gtx if is cheaper!!
cos you will have to change the cooling anyway!! even with acs the cooling is still not enough, so if the price is different get the normal gtx and spend money on the cooling!! like the nv5

personally, i would rather have one really nice card then having 2 that are a notch down. my reason is heat, noise, and PCI slots.

hopefully they'll come out with the new card within 2 months so i can use eVGA's step up program so my cost is halved. i plan on getting some sort of 3rd party HSF so it won't be so loud in my case.

as for the CPU, i'm happy with mine

so far so good, i haven't tried over clocking anything yet so i'm not sure about it's performance.

i went ahead and tweaked the timings so that it works as advertised, but i've read that it can go as high as 250.

Well the Coolers that eVGA put on their cards are just as good as NV5's, my CO keeps a pretty decent idle and load temp.

I dont know there's a bunch of things I can do, and if the new G71 is only going to be like $600 then I can possible swing that but that's in a month and as each day goes by my GT CO becomes less and less in price

from what i understand from their website, eVGA will honor the original invoice price that you paid. you only have a 90 day window though.

"Q: How much is Step-Up?
A: The Step-Upâ„¢ Program is free; you are required to pay the difference between your original invoice price, less any applicable rebates, and the price of the new card, plus any applicable tax and shipping. The program itself has no cost associated with it."

as for the stock cooler, i'm not impressed with how loud it is. it's the loudest fan in my system

Well, the thing is the GTX's with ACS are like $550 (from eVGA) and they are backordered, all of the GTX are. Hell I could get a regular GTX and OC it if I wanted to save more money and just buy an NVSilencer. I can get one from Monarch for $460 (gtx w/ ACS) shipped, and can probably sell my GT for around $250-260 (w/ Quake4). Leaving $200 left for me to fork over. If I do the step up, i'll have to lay out an extra $50-$75.

It's easier for me to buy a new card and sell the one I have
