Seagate

The Hitachi SATAII drives have done quite well, but personal preferance for me is Seagate.

I will go the other way. Never owned a seagate but my Hitachis are great. No to maxtor though.

Neither

Go with the Western Digital WD1600JS they out perform almost all of those and the tests were performed with a single drive

For $40 more you'll get double the space and better performance

They outperform the 3 he listed in a single drive configuration, but the guy is asking about RAID. The WD is $80 and for 20-40 more he can have the same space and more performance because the dual drive setup would be in RAID...

2 Raptors will cost you and extra $80 over those SATA II drives and $120 more from what you are looking at now

I know he was asking about RAId but you would expect even in a single drive how it performs against the other drives in a single configuration, with them in RAID i would assume that the performance would be better than the ones he listed. I'm just privding information about the ones he listed and saying there are better drives in the price range and it also gives him more space for not that much extra money

2 Raptors = $212 shipped
2 Seagate 80GB SATA2 = $130 shipped
2 WD 160GB SATA2 = $170 shipped

That's $80

You can do what you want with the HDDs, I was just suggesting better Hard Drives but if you're adamant about the 80GB drives then go with the Seagates, not sure on the performance though.
