FX60 more hype than performance?

Thread Starter
hello everyone,

i have been looking at getting this proc soon but the more i read about it the more it seems like its more hype than actual performance.

can someone correct this notion that i have? i have read in many reviews and benchmarks from anandtech to extrememod and some others i dont remember. this processor just leads by the shortest amount the 4800+.

everything about these two processors are identical except FX60 is multiplier and 200MHz faster. or are there other differences that i dont notice?

among many of these reviews, many have mentioned that the FX60 has very little room. it can only be oced reliably upto 2.9GHz with air meaning with water maybe slightly more. what gives? can someone help? i want a processor which i can really overclock to the limit.

4.0GHz with an AMD is my target. anyone who is interested can actually also read this other thread. anyways i am only starting this so that lots more people can answer and generally everyone will get more info.

Why another thread on this? You will not hit 4 ghz, no matter what AMD cpu you buy.

I 2nd that for the phase change. for that speed I personally think it would be more easier to do on a single core then a dual core correct me if im wrong.

Ya theres no way your getting 4 on dual core.
Maybe on a REALLY good fx-57 on phase.
But even then thats highly unlikely.

sccr64472, well i guess its important information enough to warrant another thread and essentially it is different to the other one in the sense that i asked for a complete system there and i still want info in the other thread to continue and people to suggest the info i need for the whole thing.

over here i am interested really to understand the difference between the two processors. FX60 and 4800+ because the whole day today i have been reading the reviews and benchmarks and the way i interpret them there does not seem to be any difference between the two other than what i mentioned above.

plz correct me if i am wrong.

another thing, maybe i will not be able to acvieve the 4.0GHz unless i do phase change. but what i am really interested to know is the difference between the two processors and which can be pushed further

yes that is the other difference the FX60 runs between 1.3 -1.35 while the 4800+ between 1.35-1.40, by right the 4800+ should run faster considering it has more juice...

sccr64472, y cant i do 4.0GHz with AMD? i have never used AMD and thats why i am asking. with intel i know a little but with AMD i m a dim wit so plz explain

Umm your wrong??
LOL
The voltage doesnt account for how high you can get.
Technically speaking the lower the voltage the better.

AMD you cant get 4ghz cus its very high.
Itd be like 6ghz on an intel.

I'm sure if you put enough time and money (as in several blown CPUs) into it, you might reach close to 4.0. However, it would be so unstable in all likelihood, it would die in a short amount of time. Even if you clocked it to, say, 3.4, it would still blow almost everything away.
