wait...where have I heard of this type of scheme before...Oh yeah, Chernobyl. Hey, it worked there, I don't see why it wouldn't here.
Except this time its under water over a pressurized oil well. The one over Chernobyl started falling apart after ten years, and they said it had an 80% chance of collapsing by the year 2000. That thing could collapse any day.

Actually the leak was caused by a north korean sub. Since south korea never signed the armastice agreement after the war they are still at war and north korea is legally allowed to attack them any time. That well was a south korean owned well.
The only way to fix it is to use a small 8 kiloton tactical nuke we have in our arsenal. That would melt the rock around the leak and seal it. It's a no win situation. If we nuke it then every offshore drilling country gets to clamor to the UN about it's right to posses nuclear weapons. If we don't fix it then it will leak literally billions of gallons out destroy the entire gulf and possibly catch fire and burn down half of florida and Lousiana and large portions of texas. Adding the the most stable portions of mexico to the mix makes it even worse.

Nothing will be said. The amount of leakage and damage will be under reported. The fixes won't work and america will be forced to stop trying to keep nuclear weapons in only a few hands. Sometimes 1950's come back and bite you in the azz.

Is the oil not flammable once it is mixed with seawater? Why can't they just set it afire to combust the oil?

They can light it up, but only in small sections that have been contained with fireproof booms.

sigh the nukes just never get to be used, they make it sound so cool too as an option.

Are you retarded? Unking your problem will not solve it! Haven't you learned from crysis!?

If anything, why can't they just plug it with massive rocks or something?

Better than letting the radiation out. Everything I've read says 90% of the radiation is still under that sarcophagus. Yeah, it's crumbling, but it's better than nothing. This dome is bound to fail soon enough, but it's better than nothing at all.

Brb starting Vault-Tec corp. OCNers get free seats in vaults built in their area.
