Battlefield 2 and drivers??

Thread Starter
ok guys here's the deal...I have an ati aiw x800xt 256 vid card and when i first got the card i installed the version of catalyst that came with the card. Battlefield 2 looked amazing with all the graphics turned up....BUT the problem is i can't keep the old version now because everytime i play battlefield my game crashes to a blue screen because my driver is outdated...

The issue is that everytime i update my driver...it almost seems like my anti aliasing doesn't work!! I go in game after turning everything on high in catalyst control center and everything on high in game, and i load up the game and it looks like i'm playing NES for god sake...I've tried reducing the graphics in both catalyst control center and in game but nothing seems to be working...it sucks cause i bought this card so i could play bf2 with rediculous graphics....

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

OH and PS: I've tried the omega drivers and the same thing happens

Check your settings again and make sure the game didn't revert to software based rendering. If it still doesn't look right, uninstall your video card and reinstall it, physically remove it from the slot. Uninstall all your old drivers (if you just installed the drivers without uninstalling the old ones, that might be your problem as well) and reinstall the most updated version. I run Catalyst 5.13 based omega's and it works just fine with my X800XL.

If this was after the 1.2 update then it might be a problem with the new patch. EA is working on the 1.21 patch now to fix an issue where some ati cards wont run BF2 anymore. The patch should be out by the end of the month since they are already beta testing it.

Okay men, when you switch video cards, you go to:
control panel/had and remove programs; and remove all the drivers including display drivers. You should have done it before changing cards or before tweaking with your new drivers. I have nVidia so I'm not sure which one is catalyst, but if catalyst is a direct program or a driver for your old card, it should be removed. You know better than me about the ATI drivers, so just check what I said before.

It's not just ATI cards. My 7800 GT gets dropped withint 5-7 minutes in a match no matter what driver I have. 1.20 Patch sucks.

I was having this problem too. Here's what you should do (what worked for me at least). First, make sure the lastest video driver is installed. Then, go to your battlefield 2 folder in my documents, and delete the mods folder. This will force the game to re-optimize shaders and fixed all my problems with AA and such. Good luck

I have the same card and i use the xg warcat tweaked driver, i just got it yesterday and It gave me a 10-20 increase in fps(in bf2). U'll have to manually install the drivers for the aiw part of your card, if u even care about that.

Couple of things I have learned that might help:

1 - Update Punkbuster. You can download an updating program that will update and apparently that solves a lot of problems with crashing to desktop.

2 - BF2 is very OC-attagonistic. If you are getting a lot of CTD's, then crank it back a bit and see what happens. This will fix a ton of problems. Hope that helps my fellow frustrated BF2'ers out there.

Of course, 1.21 is supposed to fix a lot of problems, as well.

bf2 has no options for hardware/software video rendering, only sound.

matey, what I would do, is try deleting your profile. This will put all your settings back to default and you can maybe get in - i've had issues where I change a setting, it goes to 'optimize', then bam.. cya later profile- on my x800 xt pe (have x1900 xt now, )

pm me if you still having issues im quite experienced with bf2 issues / ati cards
