Overclock A8AE-LE....????

Thread Starter
Hey guys, brand new to the forum!! Lots of info here, still taking it all in.
I just bought a new HP A1310N from circuit city...I know....I know....anyway from what I have read at other forums it is not possible to overclock this unit because it is "owned" by HP, and ASUS basically does not support it. I have been everywhere looking for any kind of BIOS to "unlock" it and open up some more options to no avail. Anyway I just wanted someone to confirm or deny this fact; I did a couple of searches here and couldn't find any post about this MB.
If this is the case what would be a good replacement MB that would be comparable or better than this MB? I was looking at the ASUS A8N-SLI Premium and it seems that it would work in this computer....I probably should have just built one, but this just seamed to good of a buy, and I was feeling a little lazy

Thank you guys for all your help/input.

They do lock the BIOS!
The only possible option at your own RISK is to flash to a retail BIOS of the same design MB. I'd say DON'T DO IT unless you can find confirmation that it works!!!!!!!!!

So anyone know if there is a retail BIOS that is compatable with this board?
And thanks for the quick response, I mean damn! That was fast

Cheers,

You mentioned replacing the motherboard. if you repalace your mobo the "HP version" of windows will not work on your computer anymore. You'll have to buy the retail version of XP and install it yourself.

yea, I know. I have the retail of XP so that's no biggie, but after I got to looking most of the mb's out there won't line up wth my case, so I'd have to buy another case too. So I guess unless there is a bios that will work out there for what I have, I will just leave it stock

Please tell me someone got a retail BIOS to load with this mb?

OK, so I'm what you might call an "impules buyer"
After doing some actual research I decided that I just wanted to build my own setup and ditch the HP, so I have opted to "gut" the HP and sell it as a barebones to my parents and build off of that with lesser quiality units for them, since they don't need the fastets thing there is, and build up unit for myself. Price actually came out good, I saved around $60!!
I'll be back as soon as I get her up and running let you all know how it goes, and after a week or so I'll probably have to start tinkerin' with the BIOS so I'm sure I'll need some help from the xperts

P.S. let me know what you think of the new setup? From the research I have done here, and at PCStats it seems to be pretty good components. I am not really too worried about the graphics so I just got the 6600, figured it will do what I need. I just wanted something faster for apps like Photoshop, Fireworks, Flash, AutoCAD, ect. So I think this will do more than what I need. And from what PCStats says the DFI MB's are pretty good. So we'll soon see

ClockGen does support it. I have successfully overclocked my AMD CPU using that program.

yes, you can use a dual core amd. I am currently running an amd x2 4200+ and all i did was pop it in. No new xp required.
