64-bit CS:S?

I just installed Windows x64 and CS:S and I ran CS:S, and I saw the littel *32 next to the hl2.exe item in task manager. Now, I am asumeing this means that it is running at 32-bit, right? If so, why isnt it running at 64-bit? I thought a patch added 64-bit support? How do I activate it?

Theres a 64bit HL2 not a 64bit CSS. Not yet anyways. The *32 means its running at 32bit not 64bit, like you said.

I think the patch only allows the game to emulate a 32 bit environemnt on a 64 bit OS, basically that takes more system power overall making the advantages of 64 bit actaully become a disadvantage due to the performance lost in the emulation... I believe, My take on it anyways

That's only currently available in Half-Life 2 and it's HDR demo, Lost Coast. Source has the capability to play its games in 64-bit but they haven't ported it for their other games.

Darn. Oh well. Do you know if there are any plans to make CS:S 64-bit? Also, what improvments will I see when running a 64-bit game? (such as FarCry or HL-2?)

No idea, I've never even tried 64bit windows. Is it any good? I bet you'd get faster loading times and around 10 FPS increase, if the game was re-coded efficiently that is.

Well, games designed in 64-bit make it slightly more optimized for actual 64-bit processors, but it doesn't mean your frame rates will skyrocket. It's better than nothing, but other than that, it's progress and a sign showing a slow transition towards global 64-bit computing.

I haven't heard of any plans of a CS:S in 64-bit, but I wouldn't be surprised if they made one. I mean, it clearly makes sense to make it in 64-bit and they would certainly not abandon support for one of the highest-played multiplayer games ever.

It would be slightly noticible, but you shouldn't upgrade to 64-bit computing just for that. It just doesn't seem worth it seeing as a lot of software that people like are still being run at 32-bit. It's not that big of a deal right now, but you should probably considering going 64-bit once it becomes more mainstream.

But just so you know, gaming in 64-bit has been overhyped as shown in this article: http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=76 (be sure to check out the original image provided).

I'd like to see the difference of 32 bit and 64 bit windows OS. I heard it's just the regular 32 bit code just doubled up? Anyone know of any comparisons/benchmarks? ...So does farcry 64 bit work on 32 bit os'es?
