Temp Question

Thread Starter
Ok I have gotten my CPU to what seems like its max as of now, which is 2.65

The thing is the only way i can manage to pass Super Pi 32m is if the vcore is at 1.6, making my temps really high.

The thing is, max load about 3/4 the way through super pi is about 55*c.

Now how long would my CPU last if the load is 55?

I plan on upgrading this or next year, but i just dont want to fry it before then.

I would think that it will easily last for at least a few years. A Clawhammer eh? Well, 1.5V is default for those so 1.6 should be fine imo. It's got the 1MB cache which heats things up a bit. What is your cooling?

Stock.

5 case fans, 3 exaust, 2 intake.

Im actually really suprised that even with stock it gets so hot.

So if it test out with Super Pi 32m and is running at 55c, it will last me that long? Thought it would give me less time than that.

I wouldnt really recommend having your temp that high, max temp load on athlon is 55/60c. theres really no definete way of telling you how long that proc would last if u keep up the temp. i really havent seen any1 frying a proc due to high temps. cuz no1 dares to go that high ( temp wise ) since ur planning to upgrade i say try to get the most of that proc by selling it rather than taking the chance of frying it.

Well after my vid card upgrade along with the mobo, (getting a 7800gt and the Epox 754 socket SLI board, heard good things.) It should be possible for me to get some aftermarket cooling. Nothing like a watercooling system or anything like that, but still a new HS wouldnt hurt anything.

Still if i know it wont get me much further with my OC i might skip the cooler and stick with my low temp clocks.

If you intend on running it at load (folding etc) then I would suggest you get a aftermarket fan. If you only load a few hours a day (gaming etc) then I would say that you are fine.

It depends on how you use the system. If you are going to run prime95 for hours on end every day then indeed you need better cooling. If you are going to run programs that will have your cpu running at load temps for hours on end then yes aftermarket cooling is a good idea.

It's not as though a good fan/heatsink assembly is going to cost you very much so you might as well.
