6600GT vs. 7800GS in terms of price/movie quality

Thread Starter
Hey guys. As of now, I have a eVGA 6600GT installed and it plays the games it needs to play fine (Warcraft 3 and Counterstrike). However, I watch a lot of movies and I was wondering if getting a higher-end video card would help the quality of my movies and if it would, to what extent. I have a bit of Christmas money and work money saved up and I'm itching to make some practical improvements. I'm not really a hardcore gamer, and the 6600GT (which is oced) seems to do my games justice, but if the newer card would help movie quality a LOT, then i am looking into it. Any comments?

It won't improve anything really. You're card is going to be displaying 2D video which is hardly any work for the GPU at all. I'd save it and get some better cooling for your CPU.

it wont help with the movies, because as chimera said, its movies are in 2D which is a walk in the park for you card, but for games, the 7800 is leaps and bounds better than the 6600gt, thats where you will notice an enormous performance gain.

yea the 7800 will run pretty much any game on the market at full graphics with no probs. I'd stick with the 6600gt for what your doing.

I have the 18" version of this by ViewSonic...they are awesome, but I'd put Samsung 2nd compared to them really.

Yes I would stick with the 6600Gt, great card for movies and for games for the most part. I have both the 6600GT and SLI 7800GT both EVGA. Now if you are going to invest that money into a monitor i just got a Viewsonic VX924 19" and it is by far the best LCD I have ever owned. I have owned a few and this one is as close to a high end CRT and blows all the other LCD's away that i owned in the past. Zipzoomfly has a preety good deal on them.
