'CMOS Purge' - Page 2

I HAVE GOT AN EXTERRNAL CMOS SWITCH!!! IT WORKS. I found a better idea. this is a mix of 2 ideas...one of my own and jesters idea. first buy one of these pin strips. http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...=1500&doy=17m2 . these are the actual pins they use on a mobo . these pins have a long and short side. solder the short side of these to a wire. then buy these http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...mpers&doy=16m2 and insert the long end through the TOP of the jumper and solder it in. it is best to solder form the bottom. make sure the pin is to one side of the jumper and not the middle as it will be easier to insert. then using jesters idea of how to slip them on you just slip the jumper on the mobo over ONE of the clear cmos pins. make sure the left pin of your switch corresponds to the left pin on your mobo and the middle pin to the middle. this is VERY IMPORTANT. once you have done this you will have 3 jumpers on your mobo. if you want a better explanation post on this thread as i am reli tired then i will write it another day. you want to have 3 jumpers for the 3 pins on your switch (YES YOUR SWITCH MUST HAVE 3 PINS or 6PIN!)

This project is very easy for anyone who does not have a button on their mobo. I built one recently using a (S)ingle(P)ull(D)ouble(T)hrow switch and a 3 pin fan connector with the cord. I tore it off a fan I did not need. My SPDT switch had screws on all the contacts to make it an easy solder free project.

you can get 0.100" non-polarized connector housings and the mating crimp pins; these connect directly to the headers on the MB (no soldering to the MB itself).

If I had a better understanding of what you wanted to achieve with multiple switches and lights, I could probably come up with a circuit to do it.
