You can use any DDR2 RAM you'd like as long as it's compatible with the board.

omg.. ASUS SITE: The Intel 975X is the latest chipset designed to support maximum 8GB dual-channel DDR2 667/533 architecture NEWEGG SITEDR2 Standard DDR2 800 NEWEGG COMMENT: Cons: Board only supports certain types of RAM. Bought DDR2 667 Corsair RAM and it is not supported so it defaults down to DDR2 533. Check ASUS site to see what is supported.

I'm not sure if they mean certain speeds. When they say certain types of RAM it usually means different manufacturers.

What this means is that certain boards will not support the higher speed transfer abilities of some DDR2 and will default to the boards highest supported dram speeds.

The dram will work in the system even if not supported but if your board supports only 533MHz dram speeds and you purchase 800MHz capable dram then you will be running that 800MHz capable dram at 533 speeds. Remember that if you overclock the memory of a 533MHz supported board, you can and will increase the speed of the dram (if you are 1:1) and thus achieve a higher than board stated dram speed.
