I remember using my Mom's work laptop for the longest time. It was a Zenith 486/33 with 8 megs of RAM and a 100mb hard drive (no CD-ROM and no sound). I couldn't play the Doom demo for over a year after it came out until I discovered holding down "shift" when MS-DOS was booting would free up more memory Learning how to stretch out that laptop to play the latest games is what led to my career in the IT field a decade later.

I remember when Quake and Duke Nukem arrived is when all the tweaks in the world wouldn't help. I suffered through the late 90's on a Cyrix the family got for Christmas. The first computer I purchased had an Abit BP6 motherboard with 2 Celeron's @ 500mhz, 128 megs of RAM, and a Voodoo 3 3000. I dual booted Win2k and Win 98 SE.

For some reason I can remember the exact specs and what games I play for every computer I ever owned. Typing this has made me really nostalgic lol...

Anyways: Props to all the people who had a different boot disk for every game they owned and remember edit c:\\config.sys

Can't remember the *first* computer I had, but the one I purchased with my own hard-earned cash was a self-built computer with an AMD Athlon 64 3200+, some Gigabyte motherboard and a 6600GT. Really an awesome computer at the time, especially since I was only 12 or 13 or so
