What was your first Computer??? - Page 30

First pc my family had was a pentium II @ 54 mghz, 32gb ram, I don't rember, but the video card was 28mb, but it was the most expensive GPU at the Time lol.
Total price, I looked at the receipt and it was 3700$, imagine the PC you could build with that now!
I miss that dial up sound, but just the sound... biggrin.gif

My first comp, which I really wished I still had, a TRS-80 Color and I had opted for the 512kb of RAM (which I would like to point out the best you could get, and was insanely expensive).
My first was a complete desktop setup from gateway. was about $1300 in 2001.

Intel celeron 1.3GHZ (i don't think it was a celeron 'D', just a 'celeron' - also, i think it was Socket 378 and not 478?

256MB of ram.. maybe ddr1?

40GB HDD...

intergrated intel graphics.. (it maxed need for speed Porsche's unleashed though haha )

hp pavilion 5030 $3000 when it first came out
post #296 of 422
i barely remember it. but it was back in the late 80s. i was about 6 or 7? i remember dad taking me to the fairplex in pomona, california for the computer fair. we picked up the parts then took it home and put it together. but the only things i really remember about it was the case and the screen. it was huge, ugly, and beige. you had to slide it over the frame and it seemed like it was 50lbs. but i was a kid. then it had a huge huge huge red flip switch in the back on the right side. it was like a mouse trip flip switch. i also remember the ugly greenish color monitor we had. i used to play chuck yeager advanced flight simulator on it. that was the only game i had. either way... it was probably a 386 or a 486 or something.

dad always said we had a computer before then... and i used'em... but this is the only one i remember. ::shruggs:: thumb.gif

Been through a couple. The old dinosaur Commodore 64 (Dino Eggs!) and playing my Atari 2600 from 1984-88ish. Parents got a Packard Bell 386 paying extra for 1MB RAM using 2 512k SIMM memory modules, 200MB HDD, and Dos 3.0/Windows 3.1. They later bought a Gateway 2000 with a Pentium early 90s with Windows 95. I eventually got tired of the "family computer" and built my own PC in 1994 using a Cyrix PR200 (6x86MX) processor, 16MB of RAM and a 40GB HDD, PCI video card and ISA sound card. It played everything, Wolfenstine 3D, Doom, Quake, and my favorite game Duke Nukem 3D.

Cool to see somebody from hacienda heights. have family from there.

...my first computer was this windows 95 machine, i cant remember the specs as i was only 6 1/2 years old at the time, but it played doom 2 and jane's USAF '97.

then my first personal computer was this hewlett packard with probably a socket 378 celeron. god that thing was slow. me and my brother toasted the hard drive, then that gave way to my next one that would stand my preteen and teen abuse, trusty socket 478 pentium 4 dell optiplex something. i remember seeing it come out of the box for the first time and thinking how cool it looked. then i saw the pentium 4 and associated the 4 with 4 cores. lol. i was a noob

First:
All I can remember is that it had the number 167 lit up on the front of the case when turned on, which was the CPU speed; 167MHz. I believe at the same time there was also a laptop in the house which had Windows 3.1 installed.

First Build:
AMD 3000+ and a GeForce 6600GT in a pretty Thermaltake case.
