New problem... 6600GT - Page 4

since it seems to reduce the power at 74/75C do you think a box fan blowing on the side of the comp would be enough to keep it a good bit lower and then see if it still gives me the error w/ lower temp???
(just for a temporary test, not a permanent solution... im not that ghetto haha ^_^)

74C is enough to put it in the yellow on the nvidia tab, maybe it only likes green

I had the same problem with my MSI 6600GT. The nVidia control panel showed temps in the 70's and 80's so I didn't suspect temps. Until I opened Speedfan and it showed the GPU diode temp as 150C... There's either two separate sensors on these boards, or nVidia's control panel is misinterpreting the readings. Not sure which, but I'd definately look into cooling the chip better.

Im guessing Remote is the vid card, its the only one with a temp close enough to the nvidia reading. the rest of the temps are low

Ran some tests with a fan next to comp

with fan:

speed fan says 83C
Nvidia says 75C
Comp froze after 10 minutes of load, no lack of power warning though.

No fan:

speed fan says 90C
Nvidia says 80C
Gave me lack of power errorafter about 3-4 minutes and douched my GPU, comp didnt freeze though

It lasted much longer with a box fan next to the case, and didnt give me any power warnings, even though it froze. Looks to me like its the vid card temp giving me ****.

I think I may RMA it for the 2nd time and get a better card. Whats a good reliable 8x AGP card? Guess I could go rummage through the forum for tha question

I'd definately be trying to cool that chip a little more. Maybe get a Zalman 700, I'd be willing to bet that'll solve all of your problems.

is that just a case fan? How much difference will it make, because Im still able to RMA this card for a better one that wont overheat.

This is the Zalman VF700:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118117

It's much better than the stock heatsink and will keep the GPU nice and cool. I had one (but traded it for a waterblock) and it worked wonders.
