Shutting down multiple restart then power off

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I'm having a weird problem with my new sig rig. Whenever I shutdown or reboot it, the entire computer sort of does a triple restart (hard drive clicks a few times, leds on motherboard and gpu blinks) before either shutting down or restarting.

I'm worried this might be a failing motherboard or psu problem. The motherboard is a Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H and the psu is a Antec New power 750w. Both are known for higher quality but I'm very sadden to see this happening.

It reminds me of when the motherboard fails to boot from an overclock, it would do a triple reboot before coming back up for me to choose it. I was able to get my 1055t to 4.05ghz stable and even backing it down to 3.5ghz, it still does this triple reboot thing.

I've never really seen this before, does anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong? Thanks in advance

It certainly reminds me of the motherboard recovering from an unstable overclock - try reverting the motherboard to fail-safe settings and see if that fixes your problem.

Everyone ships a lemon now and again, even corsair and gigabyte.
Have you tried running it on the internal graphics to see if that helps?

Yeah I try it with the onboard gpu and it still does it. And it does this when the the computer is still sort of on at the "Windows is shutting down" screen. Actually it does it when it is about to shut down, not when it restarts. I'm worried this is killing my components. It sort of sounds like a bad motherboard because I had this PSU with my prev 785g motherboard and the x6 was clocked higher and it still never did this.

Or on a long shot your case on/off switch is sticking if it does it in 10 second intervals.

no it's not the physical switch because even when I choose restart from within windows, it does it too. It's also faster than 10sec intervals.

I can hear the hard drive click 3 times each and the led on the motherboard blink three times. Will try it at stock and with a different PSU.

I think I might try to RMA for a rev 2.0 motherboard anyways. With my silent 4850 in, the OC is limited to 3.7ghz but can go to 4.1 stable without gpu.

Ok so I just tested it at stock and with another psu and it still does the triple reboot. Damn I'm really disappointed in switching from a AM2+ setup to my current AM3. It costs a crap load more, had to give up my 8gb ddr2 and in the end, there was no noticeable speed different and minimum benchmark differences. This board can't even clock that much higher than its 785g counterpart either. I'm going to RMA this board for another one cause I can't return it.

To anyone else who had this board, do you notice the triple reboot either? I wouldn't have noticed it myself if I didn't hear my hdd clicking.

Sorry for bumping an old dead thread but I wanted to update it in-case someone is like me and does a ton of reading to find problems and hate it when problems are fixed but OP doesn't share their solution.

I RMA'd the board back with Newegg and the replacement works perfect.
