Will My Cpu Slow Down Faster Memory?

Thread Starter
I have an AMD Athlon 2000+(133/266), I currently use 3 256mb PC2100(133/266) memory.

I want to upgrade to 1gb, either of pc2100 or pc2700, but ive read conflicting reports that with my cpu pc 2700 will be downgraded to pc2100, and ive been told that my cpu wont make any difference to the speed of the memory.

Cpu-z says that my FSB is 133 ish and my bus speed is some where about 260-270

Regards.

If you plan to overclock at all you're better getting the PC2700 anyway, since when the fsb goes up the ram will go up with it. So you'd have 33mhz
(166mem-133cpu) of overclocking headroom, whereas theres no guarantee the PC2100 will run stable at 166mhz since its rated for 133mhz.

If your motherboard has the option to run dividers i.e. 1:1, 4:3 etc. you can run the ram faster than the cpu if you want, although the benefits of doing that are little to none.
