Hi my system ram is'nt much at the moment (256mb) but nice and quick.
I have a 128mb geforce fx5200 videocard (ASUS)

But a friend is offering me a video card /w 256 mb of memory

Will it be much help to boost my fps even with my puny overall memory?

Depends on what make/model the other card is. But I would reccomend getting a 512 or 1GB stick of ram, it would make a much, MUCH bigger difference than a new video card.

Buying a card with 256MB VRAM won't help boost your frame rate by much.
The additional 128MB VRAM will allow you to play games at higher resolution as your card will be able to handle it better.
Once everything is loaded in VRAM, frame rate becomes limited by the GPU and fill rate of the graphics card.

agreed on the above posts. It would really help though if you knew what the videocard actually is to help us decide for you, then again it doesn't take a lot to beat an FX5200.
