Which AMD Dual Core?

Thread Starter
My dilemma: I have decided to make the move to dual core. I only want to spend around $300. Here are my two choices.

I can get an x2 3800+ with POS motherboard for $270 at a local store and put my venice on that mobo and build another rig or I can get an opty 165 for $325 and try selling my crappy venice. I know the opty has a toledo(2mb) and can probably be oc'd to 2.6(fx-60) and I know I can get the 3800+ to around the same speed. I was wondering, is it better to to have twice the cache in one rig or have 1/2 the cache and 2 rigs? And is twice the cache worth an extra $55 + w/no mobo? Hopefully this all makes sense.

Or choice # 3....wait until AM2 comes out and see what the prices do.

I would reccomend option 3. But the X2 3800+ and mobo for $270 is a great deal, the chip alone is $295 at NewEgg.

You know my thought clayman, Opty 165. If they both overclock to the same speed, the extra cache on the Opty will beat the X2. The cache size when overclocked will put it over the top. As the Opty has 1mb L2 Cache per core, and the X2 only has 512k per core.
