Multi gpu's + Dummy plugs ?

Thread Starter
OK guys from following this guide i have manged to set up and get my 9800GT folding
As my 4890 is in the first slot and 9800gt in the 2nd slot i had problems getting folding to work the guide said to add -gpu (0/1/2)
In the end i had to add -gpu 0 to get the 9800gt folding not sure why that is ?

Are dummy plugs still needed ?
I've tried the -forcegpu nvidia_g80 flag it doesn't seem to work ? I couldn't get the card to fold at first i have had to plug my monitor into it using VGA.

I read online that using new nvidia drivers you don't need dummy plugs atm I'm using 185 like it said to in the guide ?
Because I'm only folding on the nvidia card not the ATi card and i don't want to run phyxX should i update the nvidia drivers ?

It might be your drivers but I am by no means an expert on it, I do know that there are new drivers available, that don't require dummy plugs, and 185 isn't very new

the GPU -0 tag is to identify your GPU's. Your second one needs GPU 1 etc.

I'm folding with 3 GFX cards in my rig and one has no monitir plugged in and no dummy plug either. It has the -forcegpu nvidia_g80 flag.

Mine are all nvidea so they are using the same drivers. i don't know how well mixing ATI and NV works. Have you got both sets of drivers installed?

It might be the drivers, but if you were to update them, you wouldn't be able to fold with the 9800GT anyway. Also, the -forcegpu flag doesn't always work; this might be one of those cases.

It would probably be better for you to get some resistors and make yourself a dummy plug.

I think it might be the drivers i might try updating them and see what happens and have a play about and I'll report back

Would you say the ppd is right for the 9800GT ?
It seems to take a long time to complete a wu with HFM showing TPF: 03.54 its only running stock clocks 600/900/1500 but i though it would be faster ?

Also GPU-Z and HWMonitor shows the gpu at 105'C and the fan is at 100% too. I took the side of the case off earlier and put x2 120mm fans pushing air at the card which that didn't seem to make a difference in temps so i think it might have bad temp senser.

It seems pretty low, but I think that's more the WU; the 548s are the worst ones for me. They drop me to ~3.5k, with shaders at 1728.

Edit delete that
