Answered: How to send message to computer on same network?

Windows 7

I'm basically trying to find a way to send a simply message to another computer (another person) on the same internet connection without the need of installing any programs. I know you were able to do this quite easily on Windows XP but I cannot find a way on Windows 7.

I tried to do it through the Task Manager but I cannot find a way to make the other computers users appear. I tried to find the Messenger service but it doesn't seem to come installed with Windows 7, or at least my copy. The last thing I'm trying to do is a net send, but for some reason there is no option for "message" and it only shows the users on my computer and not the whole network.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

There's a DOS command you can use if you know the machine name. I can't remember the command but pops on the other computer. If the person isn't tech savy, send them a message "Please reboot your machine now to prevent failure." Hilarious.

Ok.... Vista/Window replaced NET SEND with msg.exe.

Open up a command prompt and type "msg". It will provide usage.

From the command prompt, "net send [username] Your Message." It'll
even work if you use Start > Run > "net send [username] Your Message."

This makes me sad.

I have fond memories of the NET SEND command in computer labs for research projects where my friends and I would send "Windows Error" messages to random computers. Oh, the fun we had.

My computer for some reason doesn't have that, instead I get the following:

Code:
'msg' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
