Which X2 is a Better Overclocker?

Thread Starter
I've got a grab at a decentaly priced X2. So I would like to know what overclocks better, a 3800+ or a 4400+. Thanks guys.

*edit* do both cores work on one thing or does it only make a difference if you are mulitasking?

I believe you will get a better OC ratios with the 3800+ i.e. more bang for the buck--but I think you will get the highest overall speed with the 4400+ but have less headroom as it is already up there....

well firstly a program will only use one core unless its multithreaded.

but my 4400+(back when i had it) did fairly well. nothing special, but decent, although mine was on air, so you'll get a higher one

The DC opterons are better overclockers imo.

"*edit* do both cores work on one thing or does it only make a difference if you are mulitasking?"

If the application is multithreaded then yes, both cores will do one thing, however there are very few that support it currently, so the main difference will be in multitasking.

Actually the Optys X2 can provide a better value ... most are a bit less $.
A 4400+ is about $450 vs the Opty $170 @ about $400... and both have 2x1024 cache vs the 3800+ or 2x512 but sells for about $300.

Get the 4400 for sure. The 4400 and up is the Toledo core which has 2x1 MB L2 cache while the 4200 and down is the Machester core which has 2x512k L2 cache. Also, the FX60 runs on a Toledo core. Clock a 4400 to 2.6ghz and it'll perform just like an FX60.
