The "Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H needs a BIOS that Doesn't Suck" Thread/club - Page 39

hey I have that loading operating system bug too sometimes i just reboot when that happens. I still have not figure out why it does that it drives me nuts sometimes when i turn on my pc and go do something else only to come back to it to have that messge. I on rev 2.1 of that board :| I stil dont know what cause that.

It's let me in a few times but it's seemingly completely random whether it decides to cooperate or not. I already RMA'd it once, the first board had this problem and also refused to detect any SATA hard drives. This board still refuses to cooperate with the BIOS but at least recognizes the drives.
Other than the few times it's let me in it either ignores the delete key entirely, goes through the AHCI drive detection, then stops after "Loading Operating System" (nothing on the drives) or if it recognizes the key (showing "Preparing to enter setup" on the post screen) it goes through the drive detection then hangs with a blinking cursor just before the BIOS would normally come up. I've tried varying numbers of drives as well as different drives (Samsung HD204UI vs Intel X25-V) and varying amounts of memory. I was able to set it to boot from USB the last time I got in, which worked fine for updating the firmware on the Samsung drives then fails to boot to Ubuntu using the same USB stick (I've tried creating it with the PendriveLinux tool and UNETBootin) and now I can't get back into the BIOS to try and figure out why (I remember there were a few different options for booting from USB). Gigabyte tech support was utterly useless last time and I'm fairly doubtful another RMA will help, two boards with the exact same obscure problem seems highly unlikely.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it, if I can't get this working soon I may need to buy another board (and it definitely won't be Gigabyte after my frustrations with this one).

I have this motherboard (GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 2.0)) with revision 2.0

I am planning to buy an AMD FX 8120. Does my motherboard support it? If yes, what BIOS version must I install so I can have the 8120 on my rig?

I saw someone posting it here http://www.overclock.net/t/1059514/gigabyte-ga-890gpa-ud3h-bios-update-am3 that there is a version of BIOS that helps rev2.0 and rev2.1 to support bulldozers.

Hmmm...I'm not positive...I have the same rev 2.0 as you...but it unfortunately looks like it DOES NOT support the bulldozer chips even with a BIOS update?!? frown.gif

If you click "CPU Support List" on the rev 2.0, they are not on the list. When you click 3.1, the do come up!?! I would think they would work w/just a BIOS update, but maybe not. I would send them an email if I were you.

PS - I won't update from my 1090 to an 8120 or 4170...the performance increase is minimal/non existant. I'm waiting for piledriver!

If you look at the the pictures of the different Revs you'll notice they changed the CPU socket on the later versions to natively support those chips. thumb.gif The release notes of each BIOS update will tell if any new chips are now supported.

Those MF'ers! I was hoping I could just plug in Piledriver when it came out...

...Now looks like I'll need a new mobo too.
Maybe I need a new GPU too
and a new cool case
and a bigger SSD
