I already RMA'd it once, the first board had this problem and also refused to detect any SATA hard drives. This board still refuses to cooperate with the BIOS but at least recognizes the drives.
Other than the few times it's let me in it either ignores the delete key entirely, goes through the AHCI drive detection, then stops after "Loading Operating System" (nothing on the drives) or if it recognizes the key (showing "Preparing to enter setup" on the post screen) it goes through the drive detection then hangs with a blinking cursor just before the BIOS would normally come up. I've tried varying numbers of drives as well as different drives (Samsung HD204UI vs Intel X25-V) and varying amounts of memory. I was able to set it to boot from USB the last time I got in, which worked fine for updating the firmware on the Samsung drives then fails to boot to Ubuntu using the same USB stick (I've tried creating it with the PendriveLinux tool and UNETBootin) and now I can't get back into the BIOS to try and figure out why (I remember there were a few different options for booting from USB). Gigabyte tech support was utterly useless last time and I'm fairly doubtful another RMA will help, two boards with the exact same obscure problem seems highly unlikely.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it, if I can't get this working soon I may need to buy another board (and it definitely won't be Gigabyte after my frustrations with this one).
Specs (in case they are relevant):
GA-890GPA-UD3H Rev 3.1 F4 BIOS
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz
Corsair CX600 Power Supply
12GB Patriot Sector 5 DDR3 1300 (2x2GB + 2x4GB)
4x Samsung F4 HD204UI 2TB drives
1x Intel X25-V 40GB SSD
