Q: What memory works well in these boards?
A: Member Memory Recommendations: To make a memory recommendation please PM me and I'll update the spreadsheet with your data.

No Iframe SupportGoogle Spreadsheet

Q: Which memory should be avoided?
A: BAD Memory - Blacklist

OCZ AMD Black Edition 4GB (PC3 12800) OCZ3BE1600C8LV4GK
DDR3 - 1600Mhz (PC3-12800)
8-8-8-24
1.65v
Comments: Unstable when set as rated.

CORSAIR DOMINATOR 8GB (2 x 4GB) CMP8GX3M2A1600C9
DDR3 - 1600 (PC3 12800)
9-9-9-24
1.65v
Comments: Unstable when set as rated.

Q:What is the difference between v2.0 and v2.1
A:Physical Boards: The Core Boost chip seems to have disappeared on the 2.1 revision.

  • DIMM sockets are remapped.
    DIMM 1 (ddr3_1 / slot 1) = Unchanged
    DIMM 2 (ddr3_2 / slot 2) becomes ddr3_3 (slot 3)
    DIMM 3 (ddr3_3 / slot 3) becomes ddr3_2 (slot 2)
    DIMM 3 (ddr3_4 / slot 4) = Unchanged
    so
    DIMM 1 & DIMM 2 = Dual channel in rev 2.0
    DIMM 1 & DIMM 3 = Dual channel in rev 2.1
  • 2.0 rates memory speed at 1866+
2.1 rates memory speed at 2000+
(This is speculated to be related to the F3 BIOS that comes on the 2.1)
  • 2.0 required that you use DIMM 3 & DIMM 4 to reach clock speeds of 1866+.
2.1 does not list such a requirement.
  • Solid state capacitors are also changed on 2.1.

Q: Where do I get the programs you guys refer to in your posts?
A: Useful Programs:

AMD Overdrive
Fun to tinker with... Doesn't replace BIOS OCing!
CPU-Z
The standard for displaying system specs.
HWMonitor
Good hardware monitoring program.
GPU-Z
Graphics monitoring software.
SpeedFan
Supposed to allow you to monitor system temperature and adjust fan speeds.
(More of a toy than a tool... I've never seen it work well.)
CoreTemp
Good temperature monitoring software.
OCCT
Has many great programs built into one easy to use interface - Its core is in fact OCCT
For the CPU Burn it uese Prime to hammer the CPU; For the Memory test it uses Intels LinPack Memory tester to hammer both the CPU and the Memory; For the Graphics it uses a furmark style of test; and for the Power Supply it uses combo of the above. Great overall stress testing too to make sure your system and temperatures are safe and stable.
Memtest86+
Memory testing utility. (boot disk .iso)
Prime95
A well accepted stress testing tool.
LinX
Another stress testing tool.

A: Other Useful Info:

Phenom II OC Guide
Air Cooling

Please, keep your system information up to date (edit your system info here) in order that we may establish context for your comments. Owning the GA-890FXA-UD5/UD7 is not a requirement of membership but is recommended as your stats will remain unceremoniously blank without it. Non-owners or non-validated owners must ask (via PM) to be added to the member list.

The below members have not yet provided CPU-Z Validation or are not board-owners.

True. The UD7 doesn't lay out as well for me (I have a PCIe x1 wireless card, and don't want to deal with it using a x8 or x16 lane and stealing bandwidth.

But, I do agree, the UD7 is rather easy on the eyes

Wow, that UD7 is overkill. But still nice though. Especially that water-cooling block option.

I agree, very sexy. Especially that floppy drive connector makes it really stand out from the rest of the 890FX boards!!

been there for a couple days I think. The UD5 doesn't seem like anything special, the UD7 seems pretty impressive though (on paper).

Was wondering the same.

No, newegg posted it yesterday.

UD7 adds an extra PCI slot: Comparison Sheet http://www.gigabyte-usa.com/Products...ctID=3425,3423

Everything else is the same! The added PCI slot makes UD7 a long board.. XL-ATX... so keep that in mind if buying.

As for not being "anything special" spec for spec its the same as ASUS Crosshair IV Formula 890FX.. now if you're talking about looks or manufacturer board software.. That's another story, but since there aren't any reviews on it yet why not wait and see how it performs?

If GA-790FXTA-UD5 is anything to go by its going to be a great board.
