Thread Starter
I've reinstalled drivers, uninstalled programs, pretty much everything short of completely reinstalling Windows and it still shows outragious temps. But they're not true, as there are no artifacts, and speedfan shows temps at 38°C load. I'm thinking the next time I install Windows (or upgrade my gfx card) it'll solve the issue.

Edit:

This isn't the same card. I had that card out of the comp installing a heatsink and my girlfriend walked through the room and stepped on it. Broke off a resistor (and some other parts) so that card is completely shot. My card's no longer a MSI 6600GT, it's an evga, I believe. It's just a temporary card until DX10 cards come out.

can you use temp monitors even though your card doesnt have one of the chips built on it? i have my 5500 oc'd and i have no way of monitoring its temp, i just left 2 random case fans pointed at it to be safe...im low on cash flow, so i cant go nuts, i dont want to overheat it and risk frying the card

If you know it's a software problem then just ignore it. If it really bothers you get a temperature diode and put it next to the core.
