64 3000+ to a 64 3500+

Thread Starter
Hi I want to know if it would be worth $200 to go from a AMD 64 3000+ (I currently have this one in my pc) to a AMD 64 3500+? Or would it be wiser to spend an extra thirty dollars and get the AMD 64 3700+? Thanks!

For the extra $30 you get 1024 L2 cache instead of the 512 L2 cache on the 3500. Definetly worth it

Thanks. Would this Opteron be better than the 3700+? Would it work with my Motherboard? And why would I want an Opteron rather than Athlon? Thanks again!

Oh, so I guess the opteron 146 overclocks much better than an athlon 3700+? But the perform just about the same at stock speeds right? Thanks

The 3700+ is equal to the 148 opty 2.2Ghz stock speed

Opteron's are Made for Server use and go through very extensive testing, but basically are the same.

I would choose the 3700+ Sandiego core over the 3500+ Venice (that seems quite expensive).
Over here in Australia the difference between the 3000+ and 3500+ is like AUD$110.00.

As for the option of an Opteron they seem to be overclocking okay out there with only a few that will not. I still think stick with the Sandiego core as you know it will overclock.

cheers

Ya man, get the Opteron. I love my Opteron 165! It may be dual core, but even on 1 core it's faster than my 3500+ at 2610 (51 Mhz slower than my max OC on my 3500+ lol). Defn go for the extra cache. It makes a difference.
