P5ND2-sli deluxe south bridge heat issues

Anyone else have this motherboard and an extremely hot southbridge???

If there's anything I can use to cool it, please let me know, I have some as5 I will put on first thing tomorrow (it's like 5:30 am and i still aint slept hehe) but i'd prefer something like a fan, or something to add onto the tai chi stock setup ?

thanks, overall this mobo is great, will come back later when have played with the oc'ing a bit, it looks to have lots of nice options!

Southbridge controls slow devices like USB, Audio, IDE and as such should not get very hot. A passive heatsink (without a fan) should do the trick and it's installed on mobos by default.
You can however get this chipset cooler which incorporates both a northbridge and southbrige (with speed control for the northbridge fan).
Also make sure you clean your chipsets and apply some Arctic Silver 5 before you install the new chipset cooler.

Adding any cooler taller than the stock heatsink will get in the way of adding a second vid card. I would suggest a side intake blowing on it. Are you sure it's the "southbridge" and not the "northbridge" because i have that mb and when i use it i never had the sb get hot...just the nb.

Well, thanks for the advice. I do plan on adding a second vid card, so your right. (if you know this also- will I have any trouble adding two vga waterblocks onto a crossfire setup possibly?)

I'm not sure how hot it should get, I'm gunna check it all out with MBM. I'm not sure if it says anywhere how hot it should be, but I've got a fan blowing into the side of the case currently, and unless that's on it's too hot to touch.. I will as5 it and see if that makes a diff, it does feel a bit cheap in the sense, that if I touch the heatsink it will move side to side - left, right, or middle makes no difference..(has maybe 3mm movement)

PS: the north bridge feels fine, which if you see a pic - I assume that's the red heatsink above the video card, and under the CPU...the south bridge is below your video card and has a black stock heatsink on it..

thanks dani - I assume you have the same mobo

what ****s me REALLY bad, is I walked into a pc shop today and explained to the gentleman the issue, who laughed, and said that's normal. I was like yer, but I overclock etc and my aim is to keep everything as cool as possible..

Naturally I didnt give this man a cent, thinking, what an idiot for laughing at me when he could be making a sale? Does this guy work in sales??!?! He's been a bit of a smartass to me before,.. the only reason I go there is because it's near my work and where I have my lunch..

anywho, so I'm not hallucinating then or seem to have a defective mobo, it seems these chipsets run hot, which is fine, but I want to run it cool.. I see no reason why a chip that controls your sata ports should get so hot, when my northbridge which is controlling a p940, 2x512mb corsair xms2 twinx etcetc, & an ati x1900 XT .. runs comparitively cool

Dani, can you send me a link to your south bridge cooler or tell me what it is, I am getting my tai chi soon so I'm sure I can add it into the pipeworks

EDIT: to clarify, I am ASSUMING the northbridge is under the large, red heatsink and the south bridge is the smaller, black heatsink

feel free to correct the above statement..

Your assumption is correct

im practicing on making them cuz im 11 years old but yea when i make one i can send you just pay for the shiping
your mobo is not defective
