Nice. I also get the joy of managing backup, however my work isn't as large. We have a Dell Powervault ML6030 LTO5 library, holds 195 tapes with 4 drives currently. Still fun to watch the wee robot wiz around though. Just a question, what backup software does your company use (if it's ok to divulge)?

It's okay.

The IBM unit uses Tivoli. While our remote sites use Symantic.

Backup Exec 2012 is horrendous to navigate, and the way it integrates with cartridges versus tapes is nothing short of stupefying. I'm looking at other options for our next server installs.

System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager. Awesome software.

Speaking of which, I've been working on getting SCCM 2012 installed on my sig system. What a pain. After battling all of the prereqs (IIS this, BITS that, etc.) I've gotten to the point in the install where it fails to create the SQL cert, at which point I find out that SQL 2012 doesn't work with SCCM 2012.

Do you run SQL 2008? I've used SCCM 2007 before and it's cool enough to warrant all this effort. thumb.gif

Yes, I hate it. Sadly we use it for remote sites. So it's even worse when they load up the wrong tape for the day. Nothing but phone tag.

How do you like TSM? We use it as well. Most people I've talked to aren't very happy with it.

I have done about 12 production System Center 2012 Configuration Manager installs (and countless lab installs) and I always use SQL Server 2008 R2. To be more specific, it requires SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 CU4, but you can just install SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 and be good. SQL Server 2012 won't be supported until Service Pack 1 for System Center 2012 is released early next year.

If you ever have any questions about it, let me know!
