Post Your Server!!! - Page 173

I have excess income as well, but I don't spend it on a SSD for backup. Invest in 2 x 1T drives in a raid 1. It will be less $$ than the revo, and more reliable for a backup copy. Either that, or invest in crashplan. I have lto 2 tapes at home, and crashplan backing up my personal data which can not be recreated (family pictures for example). The only SSDs in my stuff is the boot drive on my desktop, my wifes laptop, and my htpc. Other than that, everything is spindle, even my servers.

@herkalurk I will not be doing that, the idea just popped into my head, too expensive and impractical. Instead I will focus on putting together another NAS in RAID 5. This will cost me technically nothing as I have a plethora of decommissioned servers to choose from, don't need to use them, but rather salvageable parts, such as RAID cards, HDDs and such. You wouldn't believe how many servers are still boxed up, at least where I work.

I don't have that luxury sadly. My works servers are a little to over powered for what I would use them for anyway. If my boss got rid of a 6 TB iscsi applicane he has, it's a liitle old, but I'd love to have it.

The other day we were talking about Broadcomm NICs and realized the NICs in the PE2970 aren't exactly weak NICs as they have built-in TOEs
Since i can find a Intel 9702PT at the same price as a BCM5709 now it boils down to which is better tongue.gif Does anyone know?
I am probably pointing towards Intel since i have such a huge bias for "Everything Intel does is better" (Luckily i don't think that way for their CPUs)

The Datacenter

Needs some cable work but nothing much I can do since it's a leased rack.

Why TFTP? Why not SMB or NFS? Or are you just using this for stuff like PXE booting?
