Nice.

Couple of things though - it appears your cooling for your drives won't pull air over the lower disks in your newly added brackets - are you going to add a second fan lower down to cool them?

Also I'd advise you to check your PSU ratings carefully - you may well need to use 2 separate PSUs to run that many drives safely, even if you use a high wattage unit and use staggered spin-up. With 32 drives you will have one hell of a draw on the 5V line, and modern PSUs (even at the 1 kW and above mark) usually have limited power available there as modern CPUs and GPUs are driven from the 12V rails.

well temps in the old config were never a problem - ~43C.. so we'll see how they go.. keep in mind the fans in the lower section are 120x38* mm fans (3K rpm, 45dB, 133cfm)
I will have a look @ putting a 92mm fan below the 120mm fan @ rear..

as for the PSU.. I dont have 32 HDDs.. yet..
*sigh.. if a truck load of cash fell into my lap, I'd fill out the entire bottom section with WD Black 2TBs
I 'only' have 17 HDDs atm.. the PSU I have atm is a silverstone 850W, so that should tide me over for a while.. once I get more HDDs & $, I'm planning on getting the silverstone 1500W

My little home server I just got together:

OS: WHS w/PP3
Case: Antec 300
CPU: BE-2400 for lower power use
Motherboard: EPoX EP-MF4-J
Cooling: OCZ Vendetta 92mm
Memory: 4 gigs (4x1) OCZ Vendetta DDR2 1066
PSU: Antec Earthwatts 380 (delta)
OS HDD: 80 gig WD IDE
Storage HDD: 500 GB WD black SATA (for recorded TV), 2 TB WD Green SATA (x2) and a 640 gig WD green SATA.
Server Manufacturer: Self

It does nightly backups of all computers in the house, holds all media (ripped DVD's and recorded TV).
Can't get an accurate temp, since it is still sitting in my garage, and it is about 35° F in there right now (CPU temp monitor on the mobo shows 11° C right now though).
Temps are in the mid 30's.
I also need to plug in my kill-a-watt to see how much power this thing uses. it sits between 70-80w right now.
I do plan on using it as a print server also, just need to get around to setting it up. Set up as a print server for the house.
Still getting the whole WHS figured out, so not sure what else I will be running on it.

Here are some pics in the antec 300. May be swaping it inot a Cooler Master Centurion 5, the 140 mm fan on the Antec is a little louder than I want (but the Antec does have better airflow overall).

Here is a pic of it before I got it into a case:

*******************************

edit: Here it is with all the drives in it now

attachment.php?attachmentid=208144&stc=1&d=1304131138

80 gig ide - OS

2 TB SATA - DE Storage

2 TB SATA - DE Storage

640 GB SATA - Backup of pics and important files (need to get an external drive for it)

500 GB SATA - Recorded TV

DVD drive is just in there since I don't have a filler plate for it.

Ok, I have to nitpick really quickly..

Desktop OS w/ Server features =/= Server

Windows 7 is not a server OS. Just gotta get that off my chest.

Technically.....
Quote:
In computing, the term server is used to refer to one of the following:

-a computer program running as a service, to serve the needs or requests of other programs (referred to in this context as "clients") which may or may not be running on the same computer.

-a physical computer dedicated to running one or more such services, to serve the needs of programs running on other computers on the same network.

-a software/hardware system (i.e. a software service running on a dedicated computer) such as a database server, file server, mail server, or print server.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Server_(computing)

I think as long as the computer is used as a server, and nothing else, it can be considered a server. If someone uses their rig as a server, then I don't consider that computer a server.

well i got my new server up and running. i went from a atom with 1gb to a e8400 with 4gb, what a boost in speed.... i also have to note i love this new case. i got it for $40 and it has a lot of features that higher end cases have.

OS: Server 2008 R2 Standerd
Case: Diablotek EVO
CPU: E8400 3ghz
Motherboard:Biostar mATX g41-m7
Cooling: XIGMATEK LOKI SD963 92mm + bolt threw
Memory: G Skill 4gb 800mhz
PSU:Corsair VX450
OS HDD: 200gb WD PATA
Storage HDD: 200gb Maxtor PATA, 640gb Seagate SATA
Server Manufacturer: all mine

uses are still the same: file sharing, torrent/big downloads, backups. i did however have a Minecraft server running for when i get board. maybe another game server when needed.

Any additional software that you use?
what ever i come across i may use or not.

i plan on getting a perc 5i/6i eventually and run a raid 5 with 1 tarabyte drives.

i know the top and bottom drives are upside down. it made it easier for the PATA cable to get plugged in. eventually i will be going with SATA to fix this.
