So does my Bulldozer server... Idle isn't too bad, but when she gets loaded up, power jumps up super high.

that's why i love my atom based seedbox.. max 40w usage, and in a nice 2U chassis.. thumb.gif

my file server is a lil more power hungry sadly.. but it still runs soo much cooler than my last server (dual xeon 2.8's, 6x scsi320 15krpm drives in hotswap)

Yeah Atom's are pretty darn efficient. My file server has a Pentium 4 3.6GHz. But it's a 65W Cedar Mill core, computer idles around 65W which isn't too bad at all. Plus, depending on your power supply, something a little more power hungry can be good for it, cause power supplies like to be at LEAST 15% usage or higher

I am excited for the 3770T processor. Quad core, 8 thread 45watt TDP, makes me smile.

Fan LEDs are rice. I'm sorry but let's admit that they serve no performance benefit whatsoever... infact, LED's can get warm so they are technically adding (albeit small amounts) heat to the system. I still have the drive LED's and Power LED hooked up. They are necessary, but I can't imagine how blinding that case would be with 10 120mm Fans lit up.

The only fan I've ever had with LEDs was the awful stock i7-970 cooler. I can't even stand that they are using ultra-bright LEDs on motherboards as status indicators. I do love bright power and HDD LEDs, though. I liked the older NICs and switches that actually flashed really fast. Now they mostly just blink slowly. I don't like that the Norco case I have has very dim HDD activity LEDs. The green LEDs that indicate that there is a drive in the bay are all ultra-bright water-clear LEDs, while the drive activity LEDs are some dual-color jawns with a milky-white lens and very dim diodes. A light pipe directs both of their outputs through one hole in the front. Even in a dark room you have to get right up in its grill to see drive activity.
