Here's my 10TB home fileserver becoming a 20TB home fileserver. :-)

510

First built back in '08 around the time OpenSolaris was released. Now it's running OpenIndiana 151_a5, with a 20TB zpool (2x5 drive raidz1 vdevs). Using builtin CIFS.

Can anyone identify the case ? Hint, rhymes with cracker. I think I got in back in '05 or something. Still going strong. biggrin.gif

Specs:

Mobo: ASUS M2N-LR (dual PCI-X FTW)
CPU: Phenom 9600 Quad
RAM: 8GB of something, I forget
PSU 1 (mobo/cpu): 650W
PSU 2 (drives): 350W
SATA Controllers 2x: SuperMicro AOC-SAT2-MV8
Drives: hodgepodge really, 5x HD204UIs, 4x WD20EARX, 1x ST32000542AS, 2x 250GB for root mirror

And yes, you counted right, there are 22 drives spinning in the pic. biggrin.gif Not bad for a budget fileserver IMHO.

It's an old HP g3001 a mate gave me, upgraded the ram, installed windows server 2003, and boom, had a Minecraft server. smile.gif
OS: Windows server 2003
Case: Stock.
CPU: Pentium D @ 3.00ghz (forgot the model number)
Motherboard: Stock.
Cooling: Stock
Memory: 2 sticks of the 1gb kingston cheap ddr2 667Mhz stuff.
PSU: Stock
OS HDD: A 120gb 7200rpm Sata seagate drive, not sure of model number.
Server Manufacturer: HP technically I suppose.

What you use it for: Currently it's sat under the bed doing nothing, but until a couple of months ago I had it running a 24/7 12 slot Minecraft server. It would have been able to handle around 20 from what I've seen, but my Internet speed was the limiting factor. I had it set a few players lower than my internet could actually handle, just to leave some breathing room. It was also running an apache server hosting a single page which redirected the user to my website freely hosted by some web server renting company (to save bandwidth for the minecraft server), I forgot their name though.
Sorry for the lack of pics, haven't got any and figured it would be a waste of time to get it out and dust it off considering it isn't anything special or even an actual server case. Not even sure why I bothered to post this, lol!
Also, first post! Yay!

Sure. I started to take one of that last night, when I took the rest...but decided against it because it needs to have the dust cleaned out. smile.gif
It's a Rosewill RSV-L4000...which comes with 2 HDD areas...each holding 4 drives, non-hot swap. This is also the version that comes with the fan bar with 3 120mm fans...and there is also a 120mm fan in front of each HDD area, and 2 80mm in the back. Fairly basic, roomy, cheap (~$100), and quiet. I currently have 3 of these chassis...one for each of my Hyper-V Hosts, and one that my PC is in. People complain because it doesn't have hot-swap, or that it doesn't come with rails ($35 extra)...but for a $100 4U rackmount chassis, you are crazy if you expect all that. It's a great case for a home environment, or SMB...as long as you don't need Hotswap.

I will take some photos of the front, opened and add them to my original post...after I finish my Cinnamon Pretzel and take the GSD for a walk. Stay tuned!

EDIT:
2 New photos have been uploaded. The server on the bottom is the exact same chassis, but it's actually my PC. I currently have everything laying everywhere in my office...while I'm building my mDC (miniDataCentre) out in the garage...which will happen after I finish up my NUS server. I will get my other server uploaded soon.
