picked it up by contacting them at the http://www.avsforum.com/t/1412640/are-you-looking-for-a-less-expensive-norco-4220-4224-alternative

it was 271 bucks with shipping and the rails from Utah to me. I really like it so far. I currently have 6x 1tb and 6x2tb drive loaded in mine and it runs like a champ for freenas.

like i said, it's hella loud stock so you're going to need to mod it to get things nice and quiet.

I actually just called them. It's easier to just speak to somebody about what they were offering than to email and wait.

They accept paypal or CC over the phone and had fast shipping.

Warning: you need to also get the tiny screws for mounting the hard drives in the hard drive bays. These are not included and will need to be bought as well. You can not mount the hard drives in the slots WITHOUT these screws.

What I did was I saved all the screws I collected from taking out the PSU's and I had enough to mount the drives in the bays. I'm not joking about these kinds of screws. normal screws that come with normal 3.5 inch drives WILL NOT WORK. The case has steel guards that prevent the drive from sliding back in the case.

I'll take photo's tonight and show you how. I'll also make a new post here to show how to mod and install these drives and such.

So I want a server and a router. I'll probably use the server for a file/media server and a print server and anything else I can think of. Could I also use the same server as a router or would I need a separate machine. I would just buy a consumer one but I'd rather do this and I need loads of Ethernet ports. Don't want to spend more than £300. Noise isn't too much of a problem, but nothing leaf blower like.

Good tip on the HD screws. I got 3 bags of 100 from provantage for $4 a bag IIRC. Looked it up, cheaper than that actually:

Supermicro Accessory Screw BAG100PCS Label For 24x Hotswap 3.5HDD Tray Retail

MCP-410-00005-0N 3 3.36 10.08

Subtotal: 10.08
