upgrade processor or graphics card? - Page 2

I'll go with the 7800GT. Best performance boost, if you'r gaming...! And the 3700+ is a solid overclocker.

I gotta disagree, the 6800GS even though it suffers on benchmarks can play any current game maxed from stock let alone overclocked and you have to bare in mind DX10 and near future progression in GPU's.

If you upgrade to dual core even though it is the low end of the chip type it is still dual core and will way out live the life of a GPU upgrade, also on top of that there are members on this board which have clocked some more than impressive speeds out of the X2 3800 with high air and water cooling

**just my thoughts**

The 3700+ is faster than the 3800+ and a 7800Gt blows a 6800GS away. Look at the comparative charts on Tom's Hardware. This longevity thing for dual core assumes no one that buys one is going to upgrade their cpu for the next 2-3 years. Yeah right. Prices drop so fast, you'll see an FX57 for under $400 by the end of the year.

Hi Byson!

No I understand your thought, i kind of agree with them but I still think that for NOW the best thing is the 7800GT because not a lot of game are multithreaded yet but of course eventuatly it will comme and it will be an advantage to have a dual or even maybe a quad core CPU hahaha.

yeah but with all the new GPU's you could say the same thing for a 7800GTX prices drop but we are talking about here and now and best buy and in my *opinion* correct or not is that his GPU can already handle everything thrown at it where his processor suffers from the advantages of dual core, this is an overclocking site after all and I am near enough certain that the X2 will push alot higher than the 3700 giving it alot more potential as an upgrade

**posted same time** - if your not clocking then the 7800 series do rock mate tbh but the only real thing you will see is frame rate and a slightly higher HDR score on benchmarks - gospal I progressed from a 6800GT to my 7800GTX

I doubt that a 6800gs can handle everything... My 7800gt don't run games at maximum setting But I must admit that I play all my game at 1600x1200.But I think that the CPU price will drop faster than the VGA card...And if ''IF'' I'm right i'll wait to buy a x2 4400 when the price drops...Or maybe not, depend of how you think I suppose!

I would suggest if I was placed in your situation to purchase the 7800GT (it only loses out slightly to the 7800GTX 256Mb).

Combine the CPU and the GPU for a very current and well performing (overclocked CPU on air cooling) single core rig that will serve you well. In the current gamming enviroments it will out perform the X2 3800+.

cheers

If your 7800Gt cant handle max mate I would take it back because my 6800GT did on everything but AT which was limited to x4
