Problem installing any new Nvidia drivers.

I'm having the exact same problem mentioned in this thread but I can't seem to post in it. http://www.thehardwareblog.com/url/14748.html

I have the same problem mentioned here but none of the solutions offered in the above thread work for me. I contacted ASUS support with the following message.

I recently bought an ASUS N6800 Geforce 6800 video card with 512mb ram. The drivers supplied
with the card seem to work fine but when I go to install the latest ForceWare Release 80 Version:
81.98 drivers from Nvidia I have problems. One of two things will happen after I reboot after installing
these drivers. Either the screen will come up with only random colors and no way to access windows
or I'll get an error message saying Driver_unloaded_without_cancelling_pending_operati ons and
something stating the problem is with the nv4_mini.sys file. I uninstalled all of the drivers from
previous cards or versions of Nvidia forceware drivers and even went so far as to use a driver
removal utility to make sure I got them all. The results were the same each time. ! I searched the
internet and the only problem I seemed to find was the the memory on the video card may be faulty.
Any help you could provide would be appreciated

I was told it was a driver problem (not theirs) and to wait until the next driver release and see if that works. I've tried several older drivers and still the only one that works is the one on the cd included with my card. Any additional help you could provide would be appreciated. Attached is a very detailed list of my system specs.

Have you tried the custom stripped down versions of nvidia drivers (sorry I cant remember the name now will search it for you) they help some people out.

http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1309 he says that these drivers worked for him in the other thread,

Also, these are the custom drivers: http://www.omegadrivers.net/ however they seem to be putting nVidia Driver updates on hold.

Yes, I tried those with the same results. Just more colored lines then the monitor shuts off. Pressing ctrl alt del does nothing but I can get the driver problem error message he describes in safe mode but installing new drivers from this mode results in the same problem.

I checked the omega drivers and they are from June. The ones I have (that work) are from August. I'm more concerned with being able to update my drivers In the future since the card actually works fine with the drivers I have now. If I can't update the drivers then I will probably return the card since its either no longer supported or has some obscure hardware glitch that only effects a few systems. Also, is there anywhere I can post this so that those who make Nvidia driver updates can see this problem (since ASUS claims its their fault). The only support I can find on their site is for cards they manufacture themselves.

I had so many issues this past week with this card. I got a lot of blue screens and CoD2 would just shut off on me with an error. I tried a dozen different drivers and finally came upon this one. It works the best and i havent had a single issue. No lockup or freeze. I would recomend these if you are having driver issues. You can find them here.

They are the XTreme-G 83.90 v2 drivers http://www.tweaksrus.com/index.php?o..._view&gid=127& Itemid=41
