1.2 PB (yes, petabyte) hard drives in 4 to 5 years - Page 4

Crazy stuff... 4GB/s bandwidth with RAM-like HDDs. Lets see... 2GB RAM = +-$200. 200GB RAM-like HDD = $20,000. Hmm. New car? Incredibly fast storage? I'd have to go with the storage. Boot times? 3s. Haha

well as in other posts they have things like

300ghz cpu coming in 10-15 years.
diamond like semiconductors. so you can despence emence heat!
something else cant remember for chips. dealing with chips and ****.

so basicaly with the cooling down of the chips and stuff. think of this

you can increase the voltage of your graphics cards mobo ram sound card network cards your isp's networks.

along with this ultra fast hard drive with super storage!

so what will we need with all this?

ok lets start with games.

gamer developers will now not have to worrie about using up to much resoures. ===

super grafix

super responce time
lots of maps and stuff to fight.
super sound

like now ping will have to be mesured in like nano seconds or something! and fps as well!

our pictures and games and music files will be in such high detail lets hope for

25x the current file sizes and detail and such

basicaly our quality of gaming will increase by like 2500%!!

i think im going to start saving up my money for the next 10 years or more! :S

But nothing has been said about a faster optical (cd-rom, dvd, etc) drive except blu-ray and hd-dvd which I don't really think will be able to handle such write speeds....only time will tell.

and hopefully 10gbit cable for everyone! yay!

How the heck is the human brain suppose to hold computer bit data? ...

I think that would be amazing if it were right now. Four or five years from now those drives will probably be the norm unless a solid state storage solution is developed. But think about it, I would buy one if they were out now just to say I had a PB of storage!!!

well... 1 pb = 1024 TB, 1 TB = 1024 GB, 1 GB = 1024 MB, 1MB = 1024KB, 1KB = 1024 Bytes and 1 Byte = 8 bits. That's approximently 9,000,000,000,000,000 bits of information. I'd say that's past the limits of the human brain. Of course, you cannot really translate memories and feelings and instincts into bits and bytes, but you get the basic idea.

As for filling up that much space, just look at games over the past couple years. I, a 15 year old kid, remember when games fit on floppy drives. Now, you've got games like COD2 that take up 6 700MB CD-ROM disks. I have no doubt in my mind we'll be able to use up that much space.

No, I dont get the "basic idea" they function totally differntly, the only similarities is it holds "information"..
