VPU error and Freezing

Thread Starter
About 3 months ago my Saphire 9800pro fan stopped working. I was not aware of this until I got the VPU error that makes your computer restart. For those that don't know the VPU error is an error message for ATi cards that tells you that your video card is overheating and will restart your computer. The error only comes up when I open a game. I've tried other games. I put a new heatsink on the card with still no success. I went into the Catalyst control and turned off VPU error message hoping it would not restart. Unfortunatly it still did.
I wrote to Newegg and they we're very supportive and gave me my money back for the card and I bought an x800 GT SE. I installed the new video card about a week ago and properly reinstalled my OMEGA drivers. Since then I do not get the VPU error but the game freezes up. It doesn't restart my computer rather it just sits at one point of the game. At the time of the freeze my HDD and CPU are at 30degrees Celcius (roughly 80-90 degrees faren.) so I don't see how my video card can still be over heating if that's even the problem.
I have gone through my Direct X options and messed with the hardware accleration optionsa little but none have fixed the problem. If anyone knows a little about the situation and can shed some light please do it would be greatly appreciated.

and also, I ran counter-strike in software mode and I did not freeze up or restart so I'm wondering if it can be a setting somewhere that wen't wrong. Once again thanks if you can help.

Did you use a drive cleaner before you installed the New video card?

You can use drive cleaner pro to remove the old drivers Link

After you remove the old ATI drivers restart and reinstall the new drivers.

You could try running the card on the second pci-e slot if you have one.

Also if you could fill out your system spec properly that would help alot. (I.E. Mobo Asus)

Unfortunatly my mobo only has one PCI-e slot. I think the problem may lie in a mobo problem also myself, I just don't have much knowledge on my mobo or ASRock for that matter.

BTW I have Fastwrites OFF. I don't know if this has any effect and I'm not exactly sure where to turn it on. If it is in BIOS does anyone know what section it would be?
