2 6600gts or 1 6800gs?

Well 6800gs is only about $180 now. I will probably but a 7800GT eventually but if I weren't, how much better is a 6800gs than a 6600gt? Which is better: 1 6800gs or 2 6600gts?

Ok here it goes...

The 6800 GS:
Core Clock: 425 MHz
Memory Clock: 1000 MHz
Fill Rate (AA Sample / Sec): 5.1 Billion
Verticles / sec: 531 Million
Memory Interface: 256-bit DDR
Memory Bandwidth: 32 GB/s
Rendering Pipelines: 12

The 6600GT:
Core Clock: 500 MHz
Memory Clock: 1000 MHz
Fill Rate (AA Sample / Sec): 4.0 Billion
Verticles / sec: 375 Million
Memory Interface: 128-bit GDDR-3
Memory Bandwidth: 16 GB/s
Rendering Pipelines: 8
Two 6600GT in SLI mode should give you a better performance than a single 6800GS that is equipped with DDR memory.
However there are 6800GS versions that have GDDR-3 memory. In that case I think the 6800GS with GDDR-3 will outperform two 6600GT in SLI.

Just this past Wednesday I switched out the old 6600 GT for a new 6800 GS and the difference was in favor of the GS of course. I could play F.E.A.R. with higher settings and resolution (damn game doesn't have a 1280x1024, can't do 1600x1200 with high-settings).

Z_ONE, that is a good comparison in the cards, as to what they have and what they can push but........

You can see the difference here as well: LINK.

You can see how they compared to each other and also you can press the " + " in the overclocking part and it'd tell you how much extra juice you'd be getting going from stock clocks to overclock.

I'd take ONE GS over Two GTs..........down the road add another GS for a better gaming experience.......though I'll never go SLI.

To be honest i think it's best to just have one card and wait for the price to drop of the next gen cards which are a lot better than the next model in the current series.

Performance wise, the dual 6600gt in SLI will perform slightly better than the single 6800GS. But to be honest, I would get the single 6800GS because it is more future proof and there would still be room for an additional 6800GS later on.
