Can you imagine world without data compression? And where you never have to back anything up?

US inventor Michael Thomas, owner of Colossal Storage, hopes to achieve exactly that. He says he's the first person to solve non-contact optical spintronics which will in turn utlimately result in the creation of 3.5-inch discs with a million times the capacity of any hard drive - 1.2 petabytes of storage, to be exact.

New type of storage, instead of 2-d (surface only) storage, this storage method keep severything within individual molecules. See Colossal Storage:

i personaly doubt that we wont need compresion.

think about it. from the year 1995-2006 what happened?

hard drive sizes increased

and also picuture size/detail/pixels increased to take atvantage of that extra space.

basicaly the same thing happened with documents video music programs games and anything else im forgeting!

so basicaly what is going to stop the media/software/gaming file companys from taking atvantage of this as well to provide a better media/software/gaming for us?
