BF2 problem - 9800pro problem?

Ok, so I had my quality on all lowest settings for the last couple of weeks since I'm running on a 2ghz Barton, 9800pro, and 512 pc2700 RAM. Well, I knew the RAM was a big deciding factor in the quality of my gameplay. If I could just up to a gig I'd be fine to run on atleast medium settings and farther viewing distance So I finally got my hands on 512 of my bro's RAM to up my total to a GB, and voila! I can run on medium with no skipping or problems with framerate lag at all! Except....

Well, I had some texture problems before when I had my quality on all low settings. Farther away textures often had white little lines all over them, or would be really grainy. I thought that this was just because of the low settings. I was wrong. Even though the graphics are better and smoother now, I STILL have that same problem, PLUS now that I have upped my graphics to medium settings the shaders seem to be all screwed up. Shadows are all distorted, and often very large, and a lot of the time when I turn at a certain angle a large part of ground texture near me will get all very shaded. Also, when certain guns are being fired, be it close or distant, they will flash really bright so I can see them a long ways off.

It's bearable to play with, but can be bothersome, so if I CAN fix this I'd love to know a solution. I'm pretty sure it's my 9800pro since I've heard before that they have problems with BF2, and it kind of points in my GFX card's direction anyway. I'm downloading the drivers as we speak to make sure I have them up to date, but I'm pretty sure I already did that a while ago.

Ok, the little texture lines are fixed. They weren't a big deal anyway. But now when I set my graphics to full quality, the shading/lighting problem is worse! It runs really smoothly, I might say, but I'd like the lighting technology to be a bit more stable.

Oh, and if I did't clarify before, the same problem I'm having with shading goes for lighting if you hadn't guessed.

Mate seriously you cant run BF2 full on a 9800pro although I admire your optimism

K this is what ya do

1. TURN OFF Anti Aliasing and Ansitropic filtering completly (card settings not game)

2. Turn your card settings onto performance not quality

3. MAIN PART, put every setting back down to low, turn off shadows and lighting then put the settings up ONE AT A TIME then test, if it works put another then another till it starts running like 5h1t

If you type renderer.drawfps 1 into the ingame console (the key under esc) you will see your FPS in the top left corner of your screen while in game, this does not want to be below 30 if it is turn your settings down till it goes up.

Hope this helps

Depends on which 9800Pro you have...I ran a 256 9800Pro and had mostly High and Medium settings at 1024x768 and the only time it would chew was in artillery fire, obviously when I got my 7800GT I never had to worry about framerates, but you can still run a decent reolsution on a 9800Pro provided it's a 256MB.

I bascially turned the stuff not needed on Medium, Shadows, Dynamic lighting, terrain and kept the others on high and I did well.

No framerate problems at all dude I'm using the 128mb version. It's done me very well thus far (Warcraft 3, Dark and Light, CS : Source, HL2), so I'm really not wanting to upgrade. I guess I could check the differences afterwards using my 4200ti, but man, why downgrade?

I'll try your ideas out though dude. Thanks a lot
