No longer have the card but my old Sparkle GTX 480 with the arctic cooling solution did 920core and 2200mem rock stable with 1.138vc.

Heaven benchmark, Metro 2033, and many many long bf3 gaming sessions. It was a great card and was rock solid with that overclock and I could take it even higher by knocking the vcore up a bit more.

I gotta admit it bothered me a little to part with it but im one of those guys who upgrades pretty often.

Damn, you must have gotten a golden chip; mine can't manage anything greater than 860 at 1138mV or else I start getting random blue artifacts.It's strange that they are always blue, though. At stock Vcore, I have been able to run 15 MHz greater than the point of instability in Heaven on the Metro 2033 benchmark with no issues; strange.

Anyone know if an unstable GPU can damage the chip?

Yeah my first GTX 480 was a reference card and it peaked around 860 core as well. As for damage from an unstable GPU I doubt it will damage the CPU itself but its possible it could corrupt something within your games or OS with constant driver crashes.

I dont know, supposedly they can but I wouldnt attempt it unless you had a way to keep them cool because they could get dangerously hot with that much voltage.

I blew up the VRMs on my watercooled GTX 480 at 1.164v, 918MHz core.

It wasn't, it worked on furmark but 3dmark vantage crashed it. So i changed it to 900/2000 on 1100mV now and it's stable. It's now tested in 3Dmark vantage, furmark and regular gaming without crashes. My cards seems to clock pretty well.
