Really see how good your keyboard is (NKRO)

Okay guys, here is a real test. Hold down as many keys as you can at a time in the box.(edit) Microsoft's test seems to be a lot more reliable. Hold down keys and look at the diagram. The lowest amount you can hold down is the rollover of your keyboard. http://www.microsoft.com/appliedscie...stingDemo.aspx http://rollover.geekhack.org/

The lowest amount your keyboard will go to is the number you should post. Don't go around trying to find the best combo, as it's the worst one that matters.

I've got 6 on my Das keyboard, since it's on USB. My Deck keyboard on my ps/2 port went up to 67, I had a hard time pressing down any more keys then that.

Microsoft's test is well made, so don't need to worry about this >Also note that the box thingy seems to be quickly made, so holding down keys doesn't count. You need to just press and release quickly, since it counts it as more keys if you hold them down.

My Filco Majestouch NKRO gets all 10 fingers every combination I've tried and I've gotten up to 20 31 32 by fast planting both hands at once. Plugged in PS2.

edit: Well, my checkbook covers about 25 keys and the rest I got with the other hand. I can't seem to press more than that. The Fx keys all do different things that break the box, same with the windows key.

This is an interesting test, but I think it might confuse people. For most keyboards, there are many combinations of 3 keys that do not report correctly when pressed simultaneously. (i.e. in your test, the worst case for most keyboards is only two simultaneous key presses reporting correctly) Unfortunately, you are going to get lots of people who will claim larger numbers because they didn't happen to hit a set which didn't work. On a standard matrix keyboard, something a bit under 5% of the three-key combinations don't work. If you don't at least hunt a little, you might be duped into thinking your keyboard is a bit better than it really is.

Another test strategy is given here:

http://www.microsoft.com/appliedscie...stingDemo.aspx

Anyhow, I think it's great that people are finally seeing how big this problem really is!

I completely agree, I just posted this because it gave much better information then the other thread, which was typing a sentence while holding both shift keys down.

That test you posted does seem to be a lot better coded and thought out; the geekhack one will report 100 keys pressed at once if you just hold a few down .

do you not have a forearm? that alone should get you 4 rows of keys, using the other should be able to press all keys on a keyboard.

PS its the lowest number you should post which is 17 for the X4
