Help on O/verclocking

PC Home build
Asus A8N 32 sli deluxe
Bios AMI 64-1009
Chipset nF4-sli
AMD 3.5+ (2.20ghz)
Corsair twinx 1024-3200 DDR400mhz SDRAM 2x512mb
MSI 6600gt 128 PCI-E
Maxtor sata 160mb
PSU 400w
XP sp2
X45

I am trying to learn a little how my mobo, CPU, Chipset etc worrk & interact between them.

I went as far as this O/clock 2.4ghz, from the standard 2.2ghz, and no matter what combination of changes I try to change it becomes unstable and cannot improve it.

These are the actual Bios settings I entered:
FSB=240, CpuMultplr=10, Vcore=1.3625, Hyprtr Mulplr=4x, VRam=2.60 Ram Divdr 166

RAM divider = [166]
Vcore = 1.425v (true Vcore as measured in Speedfan)
HTT = 240mhz
CPU multi = 10x
RAM = 200mhz
HT multi = 4x

I use "Stress Prime" on every change of settings, and monitor Ts constantly.
Resulted Temps are :-
Temps STATIC: Cpu 29c, Chipset 34, 30c, 29c, 33c.
Temps with fs9 over LHR: CPU 39c, Chipset 36c, remote 54c, Local 41 & HD 34

The phraseology of the different terms used fo O/clocking varies from one write up to another. It is very confusing.

I find difficulty in understanding if MEMCLOCK is same as Memlock Value ( or RAM DEvider perhaps ?),
What is DDR & where is used.
What & where is Ram Speed? or "RAM" & "RAM Base Speed" ?
One time I read of Standard Ram speed 400mhz, the next 200mhz

Is there a LIST for which value is used to O/Clock what, just the names.
i.e. for:
A. CPU - FSB, It's Multiplier, VCore ?...........etc
B. MEMORY - VRAM, MemClock ?..................etc
C. MOBO - ?
D. GRFX - ?
D. CHIPSET - ?

Why when I used FSB 240, on bootup it posted "DRAM Clocking 333", and with FSB 220 posted "Dram clocking 400" etc ?

PS. Is there a way of posting here the IMG below?

Well... I don't know of a list persay... it's a work on it to find what works.
There are several basic issues to address.
1. Don't work up in large incriments.
2. To OC only the RAM per say. You set the CPU multiplyer to about 7x so it wont get so high a speed that it will effect the OCing of the RAM.
You will need more vdimm (RAM voltage) and perhaps adjusting the RAM's timings and even set a divider if the RAM can not match the CPU MAX OC HTT speed...
Also the HT or Memory controler multiplyer is default @ 5x being 5x200=1000, you want to keep that between 800 and 1000MHz
2. THe CPU.. by setting you RAM bus to 266, that underclocking of it will help keep the RAM for erroring when OCing the CPU.
Dependant on room temps, system temps and hte CPUs cooling or the FHS ... the vcore (CPU voltage) will ne to be increased.
Just remember when the system is full loaded for testing that you never get above 50c.
Check out the guide below... from ncsa!
http://www.overclock.net/faqs/38169-...roduction.html
3. the PS... check the 12+v rail spec on the sticker...
24a is recommended for 1 vid card or 34 with 2. A weak PS will effect stability!
