Requesting intro to RAID 0.. no experience

Thread Starter
I've got 2 very similar 250gb hard disks I'd like to run in a RAID 0 array. I have NO idea where to even begin setting this up.

Because I know someone will ask, the reason I want to creating a striping array is so that I don't have to manage 2 seperate disks, and instead just use one larger, more managable "disk".

My hardware includes a western digital caviar 250gb hd, a seagate barracuda 250gb hd, and a asus p4s800d-x motherboard.

Do I need additional hardware? Can I create an array with only additional software? Can I partition both drives equally (say, 7 and 225)and have a 14gb raid0 and a 450gb raid0 on the two disks?

I'm just totally new to this, and I've no idea where to start =P

I appreciate any help you can offer.

Fiest yoiu will need a raid controller card as your mb does not support it. You will need to install the card and re install windows on the raid array.

what i would like to ask you is this. why would you want to build one raid 0 for 14GB and another for 450GB? its rather complicated and it my opinion highly unstable because u have 2 drives and four partitions which are in raid mode. you would probably be having a performance drop instead of a performance increase.

its better that you partition both drives equally and then utilize the primary partitions on both drives for the RAID 0 config. the balance can be utilized as a normal storage partition.

and as busa said you would need a Raid controller card which is rather cheap and a vacant PIC slot on the mobo and the card will come with the necessary software.
